@Bro_DRW The number of days remains the same. This removes the waiver that they had to get. Many schools are choosing an alternative calendar and starting as early as mid July. But there is no window. 100% local control on the start date.

Yesterday I filed my first bill of the session. HB1051 allows school districts to set their own start date. I ran this as special language back in the fiscal session. This makes it permanent and gets rid of the need for early start waivers.

Yesterday I toured the Potlatch Deltic Mill in Waldo. They had a ribbon cutting for their $130 million modernization of the mill. This is a great economic engine for South Arkansas supporting the timber industry and providing 200 jobs for the region.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of David Pryor. He was a public servant that served the people of Arkansas with great passion. I had the opportunity to meet him last January. We both share the same hometown. In my home office I have framed the paper he owned and it has both his announcement of his candidacy for State Rep as well as my own Grandfather’s Re-Election announcement.

Had an awesome and unique experience today. I joined the @ARGameandFish on a bear den survey. The bear population in Arkansas is growing and these are some pretty incredible animals. The mother was tranquilized, had her vitals checked out, fitted with a new GPS collar, and then woken up. The cubs are fun to hold too.

Today I met with several County Judges and Sheriffs from South West Arkansas, as well as some of my colleagues in the legislature to talk about the problems and potential solutions on how the local judicial system is funded and how we can better optimize county turn back dollars. #arleg #arpx

A year ago yesterday I was sworn into office on my Great Great Grandfather’s Bible.

In my first year in office I,
-helped secure millions in additional funding for the Arkansas Fire Academy
-lead the charge on bettering our first responders work benefits
-worked to ban China from owning farmland in Arkansas
-sponsored legislation to crack down on fraudsters
-helped make elections safer
-voted for educational freedom
-cut income taxes for those making more than $24k
-voted for teacher pay raises
-assisted numerous local constituents with issues
-wrote numerous letters of support for local grants.
All while being a conservative voice for South Arkansas.

The work isn’t over, the fight is just beginning. There is a lot more to accomplish.
