Labour shortages are really starting to change regional economies.
At a local event last night, various landholders representing over 100K sheep saying they’re moving out of wool (mostly) due to worker problems.
Goats/Meat Sheep/Cattle are the replacement enterprises.

Had a great couple of days touring Vic with the NSW eID Implementation Ref Group. Key take homes for me 1. It is not that complicated 2. The potential for Abattoir feedback looks great 3. Communication is still key 4. Traceability tech works 5. It will be a team effort. #eID
Neat day spent in Onaka, South Dakota learning more about the NEXAT system tractor. NEXAT is an all-in-one machine that can be used for tillage, planting, spraying and harvesting. Amazing innovation and technology up close and in person.
Simon Darby working on his crutching trailer! Heavily modified to suit himself, he was a 300 plus shearer, but his back gave trouble, and he went to this. 800 a day easily done! Probably the best system I've seen, why anyone would drag or bend when this is out there...! 👍👏
Spent last night and this morning running numbers for 2023 cropping.. simply can’t get them to work at all with my business model without needing an above average season .interest ⬆️ inputs ⬆️ wages ⬆️ what we are getting payed for stuff ⬇️ unless things change i dunno what to do
We had a great roll up to our first field day for the Bathurst Sire Evaluation 2021 drop. Drafting a mob 16 ways was a new experience but many hands (and eIDs) make light work! Great to finally see them in their sire groups after measuring them for the last 12 months.
Safe to say our 2yo Palentino Gelding ‘Solar Blast’ was banished from these yards and put in the barn after this 😳
Although we hope he has a successful career on the race track, it’s nice to know there will be other options for his future 🐎🤭👏🏽

It is time for government and industry leaders to stand up to protect our great livestock industries from FMD.
Stop taking advice from airline bosses. Close borders until you have a decent plan.
Animal welfare & livestock producers mental health and lively hoods must come first.
I don’t want this to be our reality, but if foot & mouth disease enters Australia it will be…
This is a horrible photo but we need everyone to understand just how scary it is. Millions of animals will be destroyed if FMD arrives.
This is not an ag issue, it’s an Aussie issue!
6 sheep vanished. Dad sent a load to the sale yards and 6 vanished. If traceability and stock thefts were really a priority then Dad might be able to find someone who cares.
Rattled to my core tonight 🥹 Peeps listen up, if you have someone in your community going through a tough time, get around them and close. A mate of mine made a decision yesterday he will regret for the rest of time, if he makes it. Tragic story. #mates#lifeline#matekeeper 😔

For sheep flocks how important is ewe mature size/weight for profit per ha. How can it be managed in flocks chasing fertility and growth? Does mating ewes as lms increase adult weights?@KerinPollMerino @Fergenetics@LambproHolbrook@paradooprime@sheepGeekCP thoughts appreciated.
We look after nucleus ewes well to get the best ROI from AI costs. Highlights the importance of ASBVs. These ewes cut 6kg of 8 months growth. Run in commercial flock they would take 12months to achieve same result and produce more $ per ha. But not as good twitter story is it....
