We’re hiring! 2-year fully funded postdoc with Friedl De Groote @FriedlDeGroote at KU Leuven in collab with Nilima Nigam @SFUMath and Steph Ross @stealiceross on predictive MSK simulations to test advanced muscle models during cycling and gait: https://t.co/qvlKoqrEfr
Some great posters by the lab at the @TheSIAMNews PNW Conference on parallel computing (Javier Almonacid), 3D dynamic muscle modelling (Cassidy Tam), and modelling effects of cerebral palsy (@rnkonno)!
@rnkonno@stealiceross 3/ Often cerebral palsy affected muscle has longer sarcomere lengths than typical muscle. We find that the effects from the longer sarcomeres are mitigated by increased volume fractions of extracellular matrix
@rnkonno@stealiceross 2/ We found that the change in extracellular matrix volume fraction during cerebral palsy results in a larger increase in stiffness compared to the change in sarcomere length
1/ Using a 3D continuum model for muscle, we investigated the influence of microstructural components of muscle including the extracellular matrix and sarcomeres on whole muscle passive stiffness
Have some muscle modeling work you’d like to share? Submit an abstract to #WCB2022 for the session Dynamic Muscle Modeling (in MSK 3: Modeling and Simulation) that I’m moderating with Tobias Siebert and James Wakeling! Deadline is Nov 15th at 23:59 GMT+8 https://t.co/PkmAkxrWBg
1/ The fifth and final paper from my PhD thesis is out now in Interface! In this paper, we examined the effects of muscle mass on contraction efficiency. More details in thread ⬇ @WakelingLab

1/ Congratulations to Dr. Stephanie Ross who successfully defended her thesis on the effects of muscle tissue mass on contractile performance! Steph had an immensely productive PhD, publishing four impactful papers!
6/ What's next for Steph? A postdoc at UBC, and fifth paper in review! Watch out for her work on the effects of muscle mass on the metabolic cost and efficiency of contraction, and how these relationships are impacted by tendon stiffness. We are so proud of her phenomenal work.
