The Walk Ride GM Awards are just days away!
We've partnered with the Manchester Walking and Cycling Forum to hold an event on the same evening.
Join us from 5 to 6:30 pm at Station South, and stick around afterward for the awards ceremony.
Discriminatory barriers along the River Mersey in the Heatons highlighted in this video - we need these barriers removed so that everyone can access safe, off-road cycling routes @HeatonsLabour@StockportMBC
We've launched a campaign to remove discriminatory barriers that prevent disabled people from accessing the cycling network across Greater Manchester
Hear from Sarah, an adapted cycle user, as she shares how these barriers impact her daily life

We're looking at a full house for our first policy and campaign event in collaboration with @OfficialUoM and @SalfordUni
Walk Ride GM will take on the afternoon session with a councillor panel and workshop, followed by a panel discussion with campaigners and professionals.
Something twirly this way comes – guided rides from some of our favourite coffee and cake spots to the wonderful Helix ramp (aka the Helter-Skelter) at Stockport Interchange on 24 and 25 October!
Being a pedestrian in the Heatons in the rain really is a horrible experience (even for those of us who don’t mind getting a bit wet!). Not only is almost every drop kerb/junction flooded, forcing peds to either jump (not possible with mobility issues), or go out in the road..
We are hosting an event on cycle policy in GM!
Join us at @EdenNewBailey, Saturday 5th October for a day of panel discussions, workshops and cycle safaris.
Our thoughts are with the young people and their families and we hope they make a full and speedy recovery ❤️🩹
This is why we call on @StockportMBC@HeatonsLabour to implement safe streets and a 20mph limit - our children should be able to walk home from school without fear.
We are shocked and saddened to hear about this horrific incident, that had led to three young girls requiring surgery on their legs.
Please contact @GMPStockport if you have any information that could help police locate the hit and run driver, yesterday on Whitelow Road…

As @Owler_Nook points out, the A6 is the busiest cycle route in Stockport. It is vital for connecting the Heatons to the city centre. @StockportMBC must accept that people want to use this route and make it safe for them to do so.🚲🦽🛴👨👧👦👩👩👦👦
This is so short-sighted from @StockportMBC.
As @cllrmattwynne says, "I'm really shocked that we've got all this good work with the Interchange and we're wanting to contrast it with putting cyclists - women and kids - up past ...units that are dangerous."
Latest here on plans for the A6. Stockport council said it is open to looking at segregated cycle lanes on the road in future if funding is available. Councillors have criticised the current plans which aim to send cyclists down 'dangerous' back streets.

"It's not great at all. Is this the best we can do in Stockport? Sending people down a horrible industrial estate. These are the questions we've got to ask, we're asking to spend double digits of millions of pounds on crap infrastructure."
Indirect, unattractive alternative routes:
💀 Perpetuate danger on the most popular route
🙈 Aren’t seen by the people you want to impact
📉 Allow main road congestion to keep worsening
🙋♀️ Deny safe routes to women and girls at night
🌳 Work well for some people, some of the time
Cycle routes on main roads:
♿ Enable new user groups like families and disabled cyclists to use the road
📈 Achieve modal shift
🤕 Prevent injuries and fatal accidents
🚌 Reduce congestion
🫀 Benefit public health
@Jamesdestafford@Boxrick@StockportMBC@HeatonsLabour For any of our followers unfamiliar with this path, it's located here on the map and (in theory!) provides great access to Mersey Vale Nature Park and the river from Heaton Moor/Didsbury Road🌳
Fantastic! This route is an important cut through for people in the Heatons wanting to walk or cycle to the TPT, and is usually completely inaccessible.
Big thanks to @Jamesdestafford and @Boxrick, but disappointing from @StockportMBC@HeatonsLabour that this is necessary.
