'The French Window.' (1942) There are so many ways of painting pictures within pictures. Blurring the image within the image, darkening it, making it faint; painting it in broad strokes. Here, Harley Griffiths makes his work more discernible to us than most artists do.
'Suburban Summer.' (1935) Harry Rutherford was a member of the Northern School of Artists who depicted the post-industrial landscape of northern England. He was heavily influenced by Walter Sickert, who taught him during the 1920s.

George Clausen (British, 1852–1944)
Reading by Lamplight (Twilight: Interior), 1909
Leeds Art Gallery, Leeds, England
Clausen’s home at Carlton Hill in London renewed his interest in painting interiors.
'The Music Room.' (c1980) This is the art of Peter Kelly who specialised in minimal and highly atmospheric interiors. You may well not have heard of him, but when you come across his work, you'll wonder why you haven't.
"Friday I tasted life. It was a vast morsel. A Circus passed the house—still I feel the red in my mind though the drums are out. The Lawn is full of south and the odours tangle, and I hear to-day for the first time the river in the tree." – Emily Dickinson (letter, May 1866)
humor y me
