A5: I always have a summer goal. Typically there is an aspect of my teaching that I will research about and find new ideas to try. Like last summer it was getting better at Desmos

A4: This conversation usually revolves around study habits. What worked for them, what didn't... helping them understand to start strong and apply consistent effort.

A3: To streamline the HW process: assigning it, reviewing it, helping Ss get feedback from it, learn from their mistakes on it, and using as a tool for growth.

A2: In the summer I prepare by trying to get most, of not all, of the first unit planned. I also try to look at pacing for the entire year and reflect with other Ts in my Dept about where Ss will be and what needs they will have.

A1: I would like to work on managing my home and work life balance. Realizing when I've done what I can. Finding time to practice self care, so I can give my best to all aspects of my life.

A0: Hi, my name’s Alethea Guzman. I am a high school math teacher in Southern California and an Open Up Resources Community Coach. French toast 😋

A5: I'm going to take my kids to explore a large cave formation and go camping. It's something I've done and enjoyed, but have yet to share with them.

A4: I always get my syllabus, ice breakers, and classroom procedures ready during the summer. I also plan and print for the first couple of weeks, including any lesson adaptations, enhancements and fun activities.

A3: I definitely want to incorporate the 3 reads more often. Reading comprehension is typically something that many students are lacking in. I feel like teaching them to break down material will help across all subjects and in life.

A2: I encouraged the use of highlighters and colored pencils in every lesson to mark the text and highlight different key components. I'm a visual learner primarily, ha.

A1: These 2 are every where in the curriculum. It's definitely one of the things that makes this text different! Models, all representations side by side, justification, explaining and critiquing.

A4: This can be a hard one. It's challenging to combat the idea that Ss have that points mean everything. So, I don't have assignments count for much, and consistently stress it's about the learning. It's an attitude that needs to be shared consistently.

A3: I have Ss desks in groups of 4. This way they have an elbow buddy, a partner in front/ behind them, a small group of 4, or we discuss things as a class.

A2: I love that Ss actually cheer each other on, and respect each other for their successes and learning opportunities. There is a sense of safety to think, explore and share.

A1: I love Think-Pair-Shares so Ss have a chance to develop their own ideas first. I also love using sentence frames to help Ss get started explaining their ideas.

A5: Sometimes it can be hard to see areas where we need to improve. I love that going to the conference really demonstrates all of the proper ways of implementing the curriculum as intended, so I can compare and gauge how I’m doing.

A4: Ss can add in components, structure, skills, and models that weren’t solidified until later in the unit. I also love using the Performance Assessments, because it seems to do this, giving a fresh example, but in line with the context of the unit. #OpenUpMath
