Things have been quiet recently for us at Wallingford Community Speedwatch. We are encouraged by the wider 20mph limits now in effect and will be out with our radar device from time to time to ensure that speeds remain low. #SlowDown#KillYourSpeed#CommunitySpeedwatch
At Wallingford Community Speedwatch, we are chuffed to discover that, that @oxfordshirecc are listening to us and our town's speeding concerns.
Have your say on the revised 20mph proposals (link below) before 5pm on Friday 2 August 2024.

Right I have gone through the latest 20mph data for Wales and have made this video.
However, I know many of you prefer a thread so I've done that as well.
Long story short, 20mph seems to be working VERY well and is already paying for itself.

Rewarding to have yet more discussions with community representatives from even more neighbouring villages with a view to them setting up their own Community Speedwatch groups. South Oxfordshire seems to have a growing appetite for road safety. #Speedwatch
Two big bits of 20mph data.
Since the change in speeds:
- 20% drop in vehicle damage claims according to insurance company
- Casualties on roads drops to lowest level outside pandemic
Almost like it was a good idea underpinned by strong evidence...

Saturday morning #Speedwatch session for us today: many drivers were compliant, but 9 speeders recorded, plus 1 in a BMW i3 who thought it amusing to drive by compliantly, then excessively accelerate to the point of dangerous driving. VRN duly recorded and passed to @ThamesVP
Our volunteers have been busy with their other various community hats on or meeting other needs elsewhere - but they will be back! Meanwhile, please support us by driving at safer, slower speeds around our town. #Wallingford. #Speedwatch
We can only hope that the 20mph consultation as it originally should have been (right to the A4130 boundary) will now be endorsed by the majority of townsfolk to help make Wallingford's roads safer for everyone.

We are on the lookout for community minded volunteers to join our team at #Wallingford Community #Speedwatch. With full @ThamesVP training, insurance and hours to suit you - what are you waiting for? Be part of the change and help us make Wallingford's roads safer for everyone!
Exactly one year ago today, @WallingfordCSW launched with the support of @ThamesVP's PC Turnham and @TV_PCC @matthew_barber. Our work has resulted in recording over 300 #speeding offenders in #Wallingford. Who knows, we might have prevented some accidents too. #KillYourSpeed
None of the European cities that lowered the speed limit to 30 km/h regrets it
It reduces accidents, makes transports safer and gets people using public transport and cycling, thus improving air quality and reducing noise pollution.

This is EXACTLY why we do what we do at Wallingford Community #Speedwatch, regardless of the derogatory comments we see on social media from certain individuals in our locality. Quite simply, #SpeedKills.

Good that @WallingfordCSW were acknowledged as community stakeholders in the ongoing 20mph matters by Deputy Lead Cllr @psud12 from @OxfordshireCC in the #AnnualTownMeeting led by @Wallingfordtc tonight. Cohesive engagement between community groups & local authorities is vital.
Shillingford Road into Wallingford was previously at the NSL. A 40mph was effective from 12 Feb 2024, and new signage is in place as of tonight. We at Speedwatch knew nothing of these measures until tonight.

A gentle reminder to those motorists using the Shillingford Road into Wallingford who would ordinarily speed in excess of the NSL, that the attached TRO now has it at 40mph effective from 12 Feb 2024. New signage is in place.

Are you concerned about speeding traffic in #Wallingford? Want to make a difference by being involved in our small team of dedicated Speedwatch volunteers? See the pinned post at the top our profile. We look forward to hearing from you! #Speedwatch#GetInvolved#DoYourBit
The public showing of speed reduces speeding overall as it reminds drivers, and we see much less offending than using the Bushnell gun. However, the Visual SID goes back to its original Speedwatch group tomorrow, and we resume with the Bushnell only. Our work continues. (2/2).
Using the Visual SID over the last 4_5 mths has been interesting for us at @wallingfordcsw. The obvious public display of a motorist's speed for all to see is both an educational tool as well as an active deterrent. We encounter less speeding offenders using this device (1/2)
