Kenya has hosted the Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR), a specialized agency of the AU since 1951, enabling the institution provide transboundary services necessary to foster livestock trade and livelihoods . As AU footprint in Nairobi has grown to 6 institutions, there is need to establish a dedicated facility to host AU-IBAR and all of them under one roof. Last night, with my colleague @jmueke, PS for Livestock, we met the Africa diplomatic corps and partners to share strategies on how to finance this project. I am grateful for the leadership of Dr. Huyam Salih, Director AU-IBAR. @ForeignOfficeKE@au_ibar
For over 70 years, Kenya has had the privilege of hosting @au_ibar, underwriting over $4M in rent. Dr. @SingoeiAKorir Alongside PS @jmueke & Director Dr. @HuyamSalih, continue to engage the Diplomatic Corps to rally support for the acceleration of the $15.5M AU Campus in Kenya.
At a diplomatic briefing today, the Diplomatic Corps and international partners were updated on the Ebola response, including intensified surveillance, contact tracing and preparedness measures to contain the imported case. More https://t.co/cTBYBjJsKk
Africa’s future will not be built on promises alone. It is time to turn our potential into projects, investment and prosperity for our people.
Representing H.E. President @WilliamsRuto at the inaugural Alamein Africa Forum in Egypt, I championed Kenya’s call to move from dialogue to delivery by connecting African ambition with investment, financing and action.
A key priority is accelerating the African Continental Free Trade Area (@AfCFTA ), removing non-tariff barriers and making it easier for African businesses to trade across borders.
For Kenyans, this means bigger markets for our farmers and manufacturers, more investment, stronger industries and new pathways for young people to build businesses and access jobs.
Through effective public-private partnerships, we must turn Agenda 2063 into projects that deliver real economic value.
I commend the Government of Egypt, the African Union Commission, Afreximbank, AUDA-NEPAD and the African Development Bank for convening this forum.
Africa has the resources. Africa has the talent. Now is the time to deliver.
Honoured to host H.E. Amb. Pekka Haavisto, United Nations Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for Sudan today. We exchanged perspectives on the security and humanitarian situation in Sudan, and acknowledged the complexity of the conflict with the interplay of many variables including external interference and internal fragmentation, among others. We also agreed on the urgent need for a humanitarian pause to the conflict to allow unhindered access for humanitarian assistance. We also concurred on the enhanced role that regional organizations including AU and IGAD should play in the peaceful resolution of the conflict (given their reach, depth and historical understanding of the conflict) under the principal of subsidiarity and in concert with the Quad and Quintet. I reiterated Kenya’s position- support for a peaceful resolution of the conflict through an all inclusive Sudanese led process. @ForeignOfficeKE
On a rainy afternoon, I was honoured to join Cabinet Secretary @InteriorKE Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen and other leaders at a fundraising event at Twiga School, Motosiet Ward, Trans Nzoia County.
Kenya is pleased to enjoy a longstanding partnership with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute, whose engagement in Kenya dates back to 2002. I was pleased to discuss the proposed Business and Human Rights Initiative, which aligns closely with Kenya’s foreign policy priorities and our commitment to advancing human rights, responsible business practices and sustainable development.
Thank you to Mikael Johansson, Regional Director, and Chris Muthuri, Deputy Regional Director, for the engaging discussion and the opportunity to further deepen this partnership. We are equally pleased to welcome the Institute’s support towards the upcoming Trust Summit: Nairobi Dialogues on Global Trust, as we continue to build partnerships rooted in trust, accountability and shared values.
