Aside from a uniquely inspired tirade, celebrating and seeking negativity fails to find resolutions. Informed and critical, yes. Problem oriented and whiny, no.
God willing, what do you say we run it back next year? Next time I’m giving you the $5. Might as well be $500, but I’m not telling you that I’m adding zeros to your wisdom until after we win. Should I be such a lucky bastard, anyhow… Fin
Several of us remarked how “we talked about his development as a three year-old, and he made sense!” My former partner still sat silent, but the now trademarked grin had again emerged.
We turned to look at the pile of tickets he produced from his pocket. It added up to about $40 in risk. The $20 bettor had stepped out! The winner, the exacta and the triple were all accounted for. He had heard the storylines, saw the prices, and distilled what the wannabe sharps could not. The improving and unlikely horse was a must use at 28-1, and the Preakness winner would be his most likely foil.
All in all, a reluctant 5 dollars had turned into $2,500. I would dub him a lucky bastard again, but since he had honored what he did not know, and took proper measure of what he had learned, he did rely on his luck alone.
@BrunoBeidacki I listened to the Sunday US Open radio-cast from the USGA on a drive home, and it was similar to the European TV coverage of their Tour. It went directly from shot to shot with relevant yardage, lie, club choice, and leaderboard updates.
Please @NBCSports dial this in!
@andrewkornuta Forget about Pennsylvania, the Potente family made these in NY for more than a generation. You can still find some out there that stood the test of time in Long Island.
