History of 'Piracy' is as old as humanity's relationship with sea. Ever since humanity started sailing their ships at sea, some people have attacked valuable goods on ships in various ways.

According to information revealed in ancient Egyptian tablets, history of pirates dates back to 14th Century BC, on shores of Mediterranean. Merchant ships of ancient Egypt, which could be considered as one of centers of world civilizations in this period, were frequently attacked by pirates who lay ambushed on islands around Mediterranean Sea and in Cyprus. In these times, piracy was practiced more community-wide than individual banditry.

Some groups of people, especially on the Aegean coasts, frequently attacked coastal lands of Cyprus and Ancient Egypt and made their living in this way. Ancient Egypt, which was attacked by these tribes for about 200 years, finally got rid of pirates thanks to Ramses III. Authority-piracy war, which started bloody, would continue for centuries.
