The UK is under doctored yet @wesstreeting@DHSCgovuk@NHSEmployers continue to undervalue Doctors
Using training places as a bargaining chip is playing with the future health of the nation
This is not the way!
@debzly@wesstreeting It is interesting that the GMC pays for all its own staff/employees to have private health insurance so they are not reliant on the NHS themselves.
I personally think this of great significance in understanding how the GMC views the NHS.
The GMC was set up in 1858 to protect the public by creating a medical register to distinguish qualified doctors from unqualified ppl
Ironically, THEY now are the ones abolishing this by registering non-medically trained ppl as “qualified”?!
Then ⬇️ Now ⬇️
Great to see the strong turnout and response. Doctors, the wider NHS and patients recognise the risks these changes pose. While there’s pressure for an immediate response, the complexity – and the need not to prejudice options – means careful consideration is essential. We’ll update as soon as we can.
The GMC, until recently, exclusively regulated doctors – those with full medical qualifications. The Starmer-Streeting axis has already – with the collusion of the GMC – started to erode that distinction https://t.co/H3KrI2zj55
@mattster I was on the medical register then licensed for 49 years between 1976-2025.
By the end of that time I had come to utterly despise the GMC.
The GMC had been hijacked by government as a tool to undermine the medical profession at every turn.
I wrote a book about it. Amazon £7-99
The draft GMC Order 2026 consultation just dropped. Buried in it is a fundamental change to who can be awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).
This matters enormously. Let me explain why.

🗣️ | "The Government and @wesstreeting need to hear the overwhelming feedback from GPs that the new imposed contract is unacceptable.
"It creates needless barriers for patient care, and massive increase in workloads for GPs and their teams."

Extraordinary comments from secondary care. I truly believe that they won’t get it until they are gone.
>1.4m consultation *a day* in general practice. A day. And hospitals think their meagre admin burden (comparatively ) deserves to be heaped on GPs.
Thank you to all the MPs from across Parliament who attended yesterday's Palantir briefing. And thank you to everyone who asked their MP to attend.

I’ve been an NHS doctor for over 15 years
I can sit here and confidently tell you that the NHS is worse today than it has ever been
Streeting’s NHS funding cuts, doctor replacement, referral refusals have led to astronomical hospital wait lists & GPs on the brink of collapse
The government promised to remove the GMC’s power to appeal its own tribunal’s decisions. Today’s consultation retains that power and expands it. Doctors will be dismayed.

The Government, @wesstreeting@NHSEngland@SKinnock@DHSCgovuk don’t have an answer
Advice & Guidance will prevent Jess’s Rule, remove patient choice & GP clinical decisions/right to refer to a Consultant Dr
It will create more work for GPs & move waiting lists to the community
