Businesswoman Celiwe Mthimkhulu wants the youth to jump into the travel agency industry

From being a caregiver to become the influential travel agency.

Real name Celiwe Mthimkhulu from Eshowe in the North Coast of KwaZulu Natal (KZN) but now based in Washington in the United States of America, Celiwe is a proud owner of Booker Travelling Agency.

Sharing her story with MDN News, Celiwe who went to Eziqwaqweni primary school before moving to Eastland High School in Durban where she matriculated said the business was booming and it was interesting because she was meeting new people from all walks of life.

"After completing my matric. There was no money at home to study further so I started working around Durban for temporary jobs. From there I met one white lady who told me about opportunities of working in Israel as the caregiver. I then decided to move to Israel where I worked for a couple of years," she said.

Celiwe said that after spending time in Israel she decided to move back to South Africa before moving to the US.

"After I learnt that money was better in the USA,I decided to move there for greener pastures. I then met someone and got married to a Booker family. Unfortunately things didn't work out between us and got divorced in 2010. It wasn't that bad because the Booker Travelling Agency was born from that marriage," she said.

"My business only picked up in 2019 shortly before COVID 19 happened. It was like I was moving backwards but after COVID 19, I stated it again. COVID 19 forced me to shut down the company but with God's grace, I was able to start it allover again and the nice thing about it is that I get to meet new people from other countries. We make bookings international, it doesn' matter whether you are from South Africa or anywhere, my travelling agency is ready to serve.

"Yes I'm mother but I prefer to keep my private life very private..I don't want to expose my kids to the struggles we have to face as women in the business world or in the US life per se,"she said.

Celiwe who is known as Celly said that she was a proud grandmother.

"Unfortunately my parents are now no more. I'm grateful that I am now a grand mother and it is something every parents wishes to see,the generational growth which leads to generational wealth," she said.

She further. urged the youth to take chances and start their own traveling agencies so that they can explore and travel the world.
