WANGWANG’S STORY — PLEASE DON’T LET HER BE FORGOTTEN.

On June 28, 2026, in Jieyang, Guangdong, China, a gentle stray mother dog known as WangWang (旺旺) and her three newborn puppies became victims of a horrific act of animal cruelty.

WangWang was known and cared for by local residents. She was a trusting dog and devoted mother. Her three puppies were only around two weeks old when they were brutally killed.

Reports state that four boys under the age of 14 subjected WangWang and her babies to prolonged and horrific abuse. Her three defenseless puppies were killed, and WangWang was reportedly beaten, restrained and set on fire. Despite everything being done to her, she remained near her babies until she too died from the abuse.

Because those involved were minors under the age of 14, authorities announced that they were sent to specialized schools for education, while their guardians were ordered to assume responsibility for supervision and discipline. For the millions of people demanding justice, this response was not enough.

The brutality of WangWang’s case ignited the #JusticeForWangWang movement, with people demanding meaningful accountability and stronger protections against deliberate animal cruelty in China.

Her story has now crossed borders.

Protests and memorials have taken place around the world. Petitions have gained tens of thousands of signatures, international awareness campaigns continue to spread her story, and WangWang’s image has even appeared on the billboards of Times Square in New York City. Supporters have also raised concerns about WangWang-related posts and discussions being censored or removed from Chinese social media.

But this movement is about more than WangWang.

It is a call for change. A call for meaningful accountability. A call for stronger laws protecting animals from deliberate cruelty and for a future where another innocent animal and her babies never have to suffer the same fate.
