@LIPresident@ajlatrace@CCLBA Yes! Three public meetings and about 25 years waiting for a plan to consider a reuse of the building, only to be let down by the agency formed to assist in a positive redevelopment and reuse plan! This is a tragic outcome for the Washington Park National Bank. Hoped for better!
@gabrielpiemonte Awful! I think Chicago can do much better in 2019! Hoping that the Chair, Bridget Gainer and Executive Director, Rob Rose Of The Cook County Land Bank can correct these missteps, looking to the future!
@Dennis_Rodkin @WBEZmorning This all belongs in a more secure location at the U of C, in one of their most amazing libraries and not stored in a second-rate former retail building in the suburbs. We need a permanent home for this important material in Chicago before things get lost or misplaced. Awful!
@WBEZ That suburban furniture store looks to be about the size of a more typical Presidential Library, regulated in size by Congress. Too bad the Obama Foundation doesn't work with the U of C to figure a library on their campus of wonderful libraries! Doesn't look right storing there!
@mckiesdjlounge@Pres_Chicago Hope to see everyone at the hearing today speaking in support of preservation of the Washington Park National Bank Building in Woodlawn!
@Pontifex We also need to stop closing & consolidating Roman Catholic churches in America. Chicago is being hit hard by these actions. In addition to being religious centers, they're also serve as community centers, food pantries and social service centers. We can collectively do better.
@ZachTaylorDavis B/G was a very elegant coffee shop-casual restaurant, which survived into the 1970s at Rush & Oak Sts. The space later turned into the first 'Oak Tree Restaurant,' which later was demoed for the first 'Barney's.' We used to frequent B/G often as kids, with our parents & friends!

@krislucius @LynnBecker That nice structure behind the courthouse, now the site of the fire station (which is also to be replaced soon by a high-rise), was at one time "the gallows!"
@vanishedchicago@Chicago_History @DefunctChicago I remember lots of good hamburgers at Plato's Place in the old Woods Theater building. That structure was to be saved, but City Hall dropped the ball. Randolph St had a great vibe, as a theater district, with old time Chicago restaurants and the Sherman House Hotel! Sad losses!
@ChiNeighbor This is an amazing building by architect Daniel Burnham & a Designated Chicago Landmark. Hoping that Macy's continues to reinvest in the building, once a world renowned destination. Lately it looks a bit faded. They should also replace the cornice at the top of the bldg one day!
@chiarchitecture The Clarendon Park building could once again be something amazing in its exterior, to match it's fabulous programs. We need to revision & restore the towers, with access to the roof decks, and address water management and code issues. This building does not need to be demolished.
@chicagotribune It's tragic that they're even considering demo and replacement of the Clarendon Park Field House! 66% of those surveyed want a preservation reuse. To much to lose if the bldg is demo'ed. A "revisioning" and phased work should be the way to proceed on the existing building.
@chi_geek And there's evidence to support that the railway staff lived on the upper floors of the building, we called it non-passenger related services. One station also had a place for baggage & offices as well. These were all demolished when the Illinois Central tracks were raised.
@Pres_Chicago The Obama Foundation could have easily selected this site, which would have used far less of all of the City's resources. So much energy, time and City staff monies have been spent on the idea of building on 20 acres of Olmsted landscape in Jackson Park. Tragic!
@NewberryLibrary A beautiful photo indeed of historic Michigan Avenue! It's great that they captured the old flashing St Clair Hotel sign, as it was changing, between "St. Clair" and "Hotel," which created a very stylistically interesting design! The building is now the "Inn of Chicago!"
@TimeOutChicago Tell us something we didn't already know! Chicago is a wonderful town, even when the temperature drops below freezing! I love this place! Couldn't live in a better city!
@ChicagoDPD@Macys Let's hope for good outcomes for the landmarked Marshall Field Store. Maintenance has been terrible and hoping they reinvest in the whole building, looking forward!
