@WonderWhitman @MisterMinor@TCRWP@KellyGToGo I've been teaching by transition type the last two years and requiring topic sentences start with transitions. There is a site that breaks it down well. I'll try to send that your way tomorrow or Wednesday...just need to look up the link.
My students now know that nonfiction appears to tell readers something about our world but not all factual and/or true. Hope the rest of @KyleneBeers tips help students read nonfiction better. Excited to implement the strategies and tips from the rest of the book. 2/2 #collsedu
H/T to @KyleneBeers for an eye-opening nonfiction lesson. Her and Robert Probst's book - Reading Nonfiction - pointed out that most students are unclear on what "nonfiction" really is. My students fell into that trap and thought nonfiction was all true and factual. #Collsedu 1/2
Distance Yourself from Teachers who:
✏️ Speak ill of other Teachers
✏️ Have a problem with every solution
✏️ Love to complain
✏️ Feel entitled
✏️ Blame everyone for everything
✏️ Resist change
✏️ Correct people for pleasure

A2: There is still the mindset of punishment to justify the behavior. That doesn’t help the child learn to replace the behavior. If we don’t give kids something to replace, they will find another undesired behavior instead. We must teach them in the process. #EduGladiators
"The first job of any leader is to inspire trust. Trust is confidence born of two dimensions: character and competence. Character includes your integrity, motive, and intent with people. Competence includes your capabilities, skills, results, and track record." #collsedu#opsedu
Amen! Been saying this for as long as I can remember. Levels don’t belong on a reporting system. They don’t measure growth. Teachers do. #FPliteracy https://t.co/8vrTgE1tYQ
Having the same text available in different levels is a great way to differentiate instruction for #ELs! It’s not watering down content...it’s a scaffold!
