@hankgreen You could do an episode on the psychology of it and how stuff like horoscopes can be used as a tool for introspection regardless of any supernatural element.
Similarly, Jungian archetypes and Tarot often go hand in hand.
@FaatiTheStreet @kerorokai I think the allegory is less colonialist pilgrims and more indoctrinated WW2 soldiers and civilians.
It’s a moral about systemic injustice blinding those who perpetuate it, typically these characters aren’t even major protagonists but rather simply allies.
@RekItRaven Is it something you can actually change and combat or just edgy window dressing you’re supposed to begrudgingly overlook and can’t actually interact with or fix?
@1989swagg @DrLoupis Because the people in the ad all trans men or non binary and have vaginas.
They need menstrual products too and would appreciate ones that don’t dress it up with hyper femininity.
@UnarmedOracle What about unhinged theories that loop back around to just being funny? Something like how Mark Rosewater conspired with Stanley Kubrick to fake the assassination archduke Franz Ferdinand in a secret attempt to help the Free People’s Republic of Snorsh crack packs for dirt rares.
@KirstyBuchanan@Matthew_Hodson Try replacing that with any other category and see how bad it sounds.
“We have black men and men” sounds incredibly racist and inherently isolates a minority as unequal to the majority.
@trashtvnpolitix@Matthew_Hodson It’s not a qualifier, it’s a simple adjective that carries no inherent implications. That’s like refusing to be called a blond woman, a white woman, an Californian woman, etc
@sailorsctaustin Miles story still is at its peak and still has momentum. While his heart is set he still has a long journey ahead.
Gwen’s story was given a satisfying conclusion with her making amends with her father and big finale monologue, while she’s still growing it it a complete arc.
@T7tempest@MRmashiti @AVagabond5 @jessiegender@FDsignifier Pay attention to what he was saying. On the surface it is just punk snark. However, nearly everything he says to Miles encourages him to distrust the spider society and do the right thing.
He also teaches Miles how to use his powers and pushes him to get more information.
@MRmashiti@polydeepcut @AVagabond5 @jessiegender@FDsignifier He was the secret guardian angel slowly and subtly guiding the protagonists.
Aside from his backstory literally everything he did somehow guided the heroes forward.
He was also one of the only character that was was unconditionally supportive of Miles when nobody else was.
Incredible news out of Florida.
Florida's gender affirming care ban has been blocked in part. The decision is complex, but this should be enough to allow care to proceed soon.
This is the first (of many) wins against gender bans this year.
"Gender identity is real."
@LeaveHeardAlone @Blankzilla @LunaRaven90 Her story is about coming out to her dad and feeling confident in her identity.
She has a protect trans kids flag in her bedroom and he wears a trans pin.
While she is likely bi as well, everything about her story this movie is incredibly trans coded.
@dr_froot@AgentCucco@ErinInTheMorn Yes they actually do. Fire in a crowded theater was a misquote of an off hand comment in a case that was overturned over 4 decades ago. It was originally used to argue for the censorship of draft protesters.
@TenNoKishi @Kropotkinbaklng @robertoblake@jfwong There’s certainly room for nuance. Some of my favorite character designs are Teferi, Aminatou, and Kaya. In this case however I wish they did something original rather than simply cashing in on the LotR IP.
Something like the lcg’s Haradrim Cycle.
@have_no_beans@Ranting_Trans I don’t sense any judgment, just pointing out the humor of the situation.
Transitioning is framed as something radical that inherently goes against societal norms.
So, to see a “basic” trans person puts it into perspective that they’re just people living their lives.
@ScottMendelson It had a budget of $250million. It has already broken even and gave the crew something to do between bigger projects.
While movies may constantly be advertised as a big event that doesn’t always need to be the intended goal for the studio.
