The Sd.Kfz.233 Schwere Panzerspähwagen "Stummel" was equipped with a 7.5 cm Kanone 51 L/24 short-barrel support gun. This weapon was a slightly modified version of the 7.5 cm Sturmgeschütz Kanone 37, which had been previously installed on the early models of the StuG III.

This version was fitted with the short 75mm main gun with an MG 42 machine gun. With 115 built between 1942 and 1943, they saw action on all major fronts from north Africa to Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge.
