Memorial Day, Chicago

Downtown is packed, a mass of marching feet.
Stacked chicks patrol along Division Street.
The Hancock tower, a tall block stretching dark,
Shades shoppers trooping up each avenue,
And weekend chefs from every yard imbue
The air with a pungent haze of barbecue.

On the Eisenhower, traffic’s fully crammed in.
From the West on Washington, the South on Cannon,
In squads, where Lincoln guards his general’s park,
Stream flip-flopped families, armed with chairs and bug spray.
With beetled brow he sternly approves their day
Of beaches, picnics, concerts, food, and play.

The lakefront’s long and calm with gulls and bikes.
None hark to distant guns or scan for air strikes;
Instead boys watch babes and moms their tykes—
The sun and fun our soldiers bled and died for.
Today, at least, let’s pray we don’t ignore
Our lives of playful peace were bought with war.

The voting being mostly a state issue is probably true under our Constitution. Unfortunately, SCOTUS has repeatedly refused to hear cases brought by states against other states, particularly lawsuits regarding election fraud. So now States have no legal recourse against other States for potential harms. When legal recourse ends, typically that's where secessions and Civil Wars begin.

More likely they were so incompetent at farming that they had to sell their land to someone else, and then get hired back on as workers.
--"they're paying the Afrikaners more than they pay us. That doesn't make any sense economically." No, if you as a worker are crappy at farming, it makes perfect sense that the farm owner would pay more for a better worker.

Welcome to fractional reserve banking, AKA legalized fraud. Every bank is only legally required to have a small percentage of their total assets available for withdrawal, typically in the low single digit percentage. A few large withdrawals at once would render them technically insolvent, and potentially expose the smoke and mirrors show that every bank, essentially, is. Hence the delaying tactics you witnessed.

Everyone screams about the fiat dollar and ending the Fed, but if the Fed was shut down tomorrow and all of a sudden the dollar was 100% gold backed, but fractional reserve banking remained, we would still have banking crises.
