“A genuine university response to racism would treat claims of discrimination as testable hypotheses, evaluated through evidence, debate, and counter-argument,” writes William McNally (@WilliamMcNall18).

Laurier should "treat claims of discrimination as testable hypotheses, evaluated through evidence, debate, and counter-argument.
Antiracism 101 rejects this methodology.
It assumes the existence of systemic racism...and it embeds that assumption in a non-falsifiable framework."
Unfortunately, Laurier is still pursuing racially discriminatory policies. We've written a letter to the VP Finance requesting an explanation why $5000 of the "Sustainable Hawk Fund" is apportioned by race.

When I directly asked my administration if the Reges syllabus 'acknowledgement' would violate any Laurier policy, they could only say it "would be assessed at the appropriate time".
This translates to "It depends on how much pressure is brought upon us from the mob."

After a 75-year experiment in public science funding, we "can now confidently say that the experiment has failed—decisively."
Important report from @macrotermiteman detailing how the "Big Science Cartel" is fleecing taxpayers.
A must read!

A systematic literature review finds the scientific literature as a whole does not support the claim that 'diversity' increases scientific output or impact.
Join us for lively discussion on Tuesday, February 24th, 7 PM in BA209!
This is what happened at @uLethbridge, @ABDanielleSmith, when we tried to discuss "Residential School Genocide?" We need a public inquiry about how to restore our universities to be academic spaces once more!
Disregarding institutional neutrality, universities encourage political statements on syllabi. What happens when independent thinkers include their own statements?
If you're Stuart Reges, admin retaliation. If you're Will McNally, (so far) student kudos!

Excellent move towards removing political statements on syllabi. But this relies on US first amendment so no similar protections in Canada.
At Laurier, profs McNally & Horsman worked through Senate to at least label as 'optional' the land acknowledgement on the syllabus template.
Reminder: Musqueam First Nation is right now in a court battle with Cowichan First Nations about the Richmond title/fishing rights. If the approach is one of "partnership and relationships with [their] neighbours" why are they not settling that dispute outside of the courts?

This looks like a fantastic and very timely talk from philosophy professor @ChristinaBehme4. Too bad it's so far away! If you are coming through Waterloo we'd love to hear it, Christina!
Please come and hear this discussion if you are close to Toronto! You'll get to hear from me, and other interesting thinkers about the importance of free speech - @LKrauss1, @PardyBruce, @dockaurG, @jonkay, and @HorsmanGeoff!
As I've said before, half my family is Haida, the others came from Scotland in 1840.
The latter are not "settlers" or "colonists" That's a resentful, fake division that splits Canadians into villains and heroes.
Reject it always.
@SeanCarleton@HorsmanGeoff Good fact check. Doesn't literally say 'skin color,' just 'ethno-racial':
"The criterion...shall be excellence, which is understood to encompass the goals of diversity and inclusivity...in terms of discipline, gender, ethno-racial diversity, Aboriginality, and official languages"
There's a petition of faculty members at a bunch of universities attempting to block obtaining data that could help people potentially understand publicly-funded research projects and EDI in Canada.

Policy brief to Standing Committee on Science & Research;
- EDI is costly & inequitable
- No evidence that EDI improves research
- EDI uses flawed metrics, can never end
- Public dislikes EDI
RECOMMENDATION: Tri-Council agencies should abolish EDI

@UBC posted an ad for up to two Assistant Prof positions in Computer Science, a DIE pledge ad. It makes numerous ideological assertions. The general public and academics should condemn these anti-academic, exclusionary practices.
