In 1999, the Auditor General of #NewZealand rated the #Wellington Council’s contract controls weak. In 2025, @GrantThorntonNZ found more than 80% of contracts lacked reference numbers, nearly half had no listed contract manager & more than a 3rd omitted a right-to-audit clause.
@velvetjonesVJJ@aniobrien Hi Velvet, can you please share a snip of the email so we could share this further in other platform? It gives more credibility. Please block out your details.
An $11.7m contract to manage Māori-related statistics and census data had such lax reporting and financial processes that Statistics NZ had no idea if its public funding was being spent appropriately, the Auditor-General says.

@JosephMooneyMP@Light42Lime Public auditors only check if procurement rules were followed (quotes + approvals) & reporting. They rarely examine whether the decision is economically justified. This creates an accountability gap. We need better ways to hold councils & govt to account for real value for money.
@GaryGotlib@NMowbray23@NZNationalParty@actparty $4,027,020 on the Oranga (Wellbeing) Project - including treating Kauri dieback with potions made from Whale-oil and music from whale song. To be fair, this coalition could have stopped this project in time and save some leftovers.

Why would a diary and liquor shop get approved for AEWV @EricaStanfordMP ? Are we saying no Kiwis available for this role?
This is how immigration provisions in India NZ FTA will be misused.
@tonycartman1@TheZeitgeistNZ I know orchards who were even approved to hire migrant from South Asia for marketing manager roles. One labor contractor brought 10 people from abroad when @nzlabour relaxed AEWV. Those marketing managers simply work in farms as orchard workers 😀.
@aegiappa@EricaStanfordMP@AndrewF47710136 Math and Science teacher of my kid are South Indian and Fiji Indian and I don’t see any problem with that. They are good teachers and pass through the same training and licensing requirements.
The Auditor General of New Zealand has announced a refreshed direction and new name- ‘The Audit Office.’ The two earlier sub-brand Office of the Auditor-General and Audit New Zealand are now retired and the team is merged together. This restructuring involved 13 job losses.

1. Only residents are allowed to buy house.
2. Ordinarily residents are not work visa holders. They are resident visa holders with right to live in NZ indefinitely, but with a 2 yrs travel condition.
