Our latest “Who Is Waterkeeper” spotlights Matt Pluta, @ChoptankRK . While his path to the Choptank River was not a straight line, Matt’s lifelong love for water ultimately drew him away from a business career and into environmental advocacy.
Matt actively engages the community using policy work and outreach to help others connect with the river and become advocates themselves.

@EPA has proposed rolling back Safe Drinking Water Act regulations for four types of toxic PFAS ‘forever chemicals’ which are linked to serious health risks. Weakening these protections would remove federal requirements to keep these types of PFAS out of our water, and it’s not the only weakening of clean water protections EPA is planning.
Tell EPA: protect our drinking water, not polluters. Take action today: https://t.co/dIePGoCHll

The @EPA's proposed coal ash rollbacks will legally allow corporations to contaminate our drinking water. We cannot let corporate profits come before human health. The public comment window closes on June 12.

"Last week, the EPA held an all-day hearing on the proposed changes to regulate coal ash that were first proposed in April. The public can still comment on the proposed changes online until June 12. So far, more than 24,000 comments have been received." https://t.co/CRyv4zcDmR
@EPA is about to allow corporations to legally poison our drinking water.
The agency just released a new proposal to roll back federal protections on coal ash, a highly toxic waste byproduct that is already contaminating our water, air, and communities. This reckless decision would dismantle current coal ash safeguards, needlessly endanger millions of lives, and hand a massive profit directly to corporate polluters.
We can not let them put polluters profit over human health.
Your voice matters. Take action today: https://t.co/DDPviBmDGe

U.S. EPA's latest action rolls back key #PFAS drinking water protections, weakening limits and delaying enforcement of existing standards for these toxic #foreverchemicals.

For decades, the U.S. Clean Water Act has helped reduce pollution in rivers, lakes, streams, and wetlands by setting clear rules and holding polluters accountable.
Recent rollbacks threaten that progress, putting millions of acres of wetlands, thousands of miles of streams, and many of our drinking water sources at risk.
States can step in to help fill the gap.
Waterkeeper Alliance and @WaterLawyers have released a practical guide for how states can strengthen protections after the Supreme Court’s Sackett decision narrowed federal protections.

The video speaks for itself.
These tiny pellets may look harmless, but they are not.
Last Saturday, @SABWaterkeeper collected over 715,000 plastic pellets near a Dow Chemical facility in just 10 minutes.
That’s only a fraction of what’s out there.
At the start of the International Pellet Count, 600 volunteers across 114 sites in the U.S. and four other countries collected a total of 731,552 plastic pellets.
Think about that. And then think about how much is still in our water and environment.
This is why data matters. It helps build the case for accountability through advocacy, policy, and litigation.
Diane knows that better than most.
She’s a Texas mom who got fed up, fought back, and won the largest U.S. Clean Water Act settlement against the plastics industry.
And she did it with data like what we’re collecting throughout May.
This is what real change takes. People, persistence, and proof.
You can be part of it.
Read our release to learn more about the collective fight to end plastic pollution.
And most importantly, sign up for a pellet count and report what you find.
Diane is still fighting back. You can too.
