What a week it was! More than 300 industry leaders, policymakers, Indigenous partners, and innovators gathered in Ottawa from October 1-3 for Canadian Waterpower Week 2025. Under the theme Powering Canada, Empowering the Future, we tackled the big questions facing our sector - from regulatory reform and cross-border trade to the role of AI in shaping electricity demand.

Here's a look back at the moments that made this year's conference unforgettable. Speakers featured: Serge Abergel, Lorena Patterson, Candice Tourville, Eric Atagotaaluk, William Twardek and Chris Derksen.

⚡ We’re pleased to highlight Hydro-Québec’s latest milestone: the start of electricity deliveries through a new 1,250 MW transmission connection between Québec and New York.

The project is expected to generate approximately US$34 billion over the life of the contract and includes a landmark partnership with the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà, which will become a co-owner of the Québec portion of the transmission line.

The Report by the Churchill River Independent Review Committee, released this week, identified areas requiring further discussion within the memorandum of understanding.

We respect the review process and trust that both parties will use the committee’s findings to move toward a strong agreement built on long-term partnership and shared benefit. Major hydropower development requires partnerships that work for everyone at the table, and we are confident that a path forward exists.
