We have a department here called "Acquistions and Serial Services." With that abbreviation staring at me, and wondering about the current leadership of the department, I couldn't resist the opportunity to send an email with the subject line, "Head of ASS?"

Very pleased with my public library's audiobook app right now. I had an audiobook out a month ago that was returned before I'd finished it. It just got checked out to me again and the app remembered exactly where I was when I stopped listening a month ago.

In library school, our "Reference" class professor, Dr. Carol Tenopir, brought in some old punch cards and knitting needles to demonstrate "false drops." I was telling my parents about it later and that's when Mom told me that's what her mother did - ran punch card machines.

I've always assumed that the reason librarianship is so white is because it's mostly white people who can afford to go into an underpaid profession that requires a master's degree for entry.
