WHY GROW PEAS?
Peas offer farmers an opportunity to diversify income, improve nutrition, access high-value markets and introduce a legume into cereal-based rotations.
But success requires more than planting: right variety + right environment + right agronomy + right market.
Friday doesn’t need many words.
A well-taken-care-of wheat crop says it all.
We’re marching towards our national wheat volume targets, and I’m sure we share the same vision.
Happy weekend, farmers& wanna be farmers🙂!
Every step we take today can shape a stronger tomorrow. Building rural communities one step at a time, through the adoption of climate-smart agriculture.
When farmers embrace knowledge, innovation, & climate-smart practices, we improve harvests

“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” - Lao Tzu
Patience is not inactivity. It is trusting the process while doing your part.
In farming, you cannot force a crop to mature before its season. Respect the timing.

Proud to be featured in the latest @MarichoMedia magazine, sharing practical insights on wheat management from flag leaf to head fill.

Timely decisions saves the final output.

In wheat timing matters, Late application of hormonal herbicides such as MCPA can injure wheat, causing deformed heads, abnormal development and potential yield losses.
Know your crop growth stages. Follow label recommendations. Don’t trade weed control for yield loss.
“Yield potential is built before flowering, but yield is secured during grain filling. Every healthy green leaf during this period is a factory producing carbohydrates that ultimately become grain. Protect the canopy, manage irrigation wisely, & allow the crop to finish strong.”
Commendable initiative by Serule West Farmers Association this weekend fixing and replacing the disease control fence between Zones 6 and 8. They covered over 5km in 2 days (Friday and Saturday). No task is too daunting especially when your livelihood depends on it.
Africa’s future won’t be secured by producing more grain alone, it will be secured by owning more of the value chain.
Grow maize.
Process it.
Brand it.
Distribute it
Diversify horizontally with climate-smart crops like SC555, SC547, SC Nua 45, and SC Daisy tomato.
August is a month of opportunity.Let us plant and recover what we could have lost. We do not have luxury of not growing food. People still need to eat. Plant green mealies, tomatoes, okra & cucurbits.
It doesn’t matter whether your field is big or small, what matters is maximum production per unit area.Gross Profit per ha matter now, considering Global Economic Shocks & VUCA. Let’s talk about what you want to grow. Your crop journey matters.

The journey of agronomy is never walked alone. No one has a monopoly of knowledge. Every farm visit is a chance to listen, learn and share experiences.
Great spending time with @ForwardMakasi1 & several farmers. Together, we can serve farmers better through a shared vision, shared responsibility,

Did you know that the flag leaf is one of the most important leaves on a wheat plant? It is the last leaf to emerge before the wheat head and acts as the plant’s powerhouse during grain filling. Research shows that the flag leaf can contribute up to 40–50% of the carbohydrates needed to produce well-filled, high-quality grain.
1. Captures sunlight efficiently for photosynthesis.
2. Supplies energy for grain filling.
3. Supports higher grain weight and better yields.
Protecting the flag leaf through balanced nutrition, timely disease control, and effective pest management is essential to unlocking the full yield potential of your wheat crop.

So many times i get to remind farmers that good genetics alone is not enough. The best wheat varieties only reach their full potential when supported by excellent agronomic management.
-No moisture stress
-Effective disease control
-Timely insect pest management
-Balanced crop nutrition
Every management decision influences yield, grain quality(utility, premium) , baking qualities, & profitability.

This is the most yield-sensitive stage. Protect the flag leaf, maintain field capacity, apply fungicides on time, scout for pests & diseases, and avoid moisture stress during pollination.

Knowledge is the greatest yield multiplier. From crop scouting , pest identification to disease management & fungicide timing, informed decisions are what separate good harvests from exceptional ones.
Let’s continue sharing science-based agronomy that empowers farmers & strengthens Zimbabwe’s food security.
