Pro tip:
If you run a business in Kenya that has a turnover of under Kshs 5M in a year, register for ToT and not VAT.
Eg assuming you're a laptop fundi and you mostly charge for labour. As a ToT registered fellow you have a leeway to earn up to 416,000 per month while only paying 1.5% as Tax instead of the other complicated maths of 16% VAT filing plus 30% corporate tax. This is based on the assumption that you don't have VAT input. Consult your tax person on how to register the business name and the exact optimum tax arrangement.
