🚨 THERE’S A THIRD PARTY IN THE CONSOLE WARS NOW: US GAMERS. For years, it’s been framed as PlayStation vs Xbox, with Nintendo doing its own thing on the side. But something has changed. Gamers are starting to realize we don’t have to keep choosing between companies that keep raising prices, limiting options and expecting us to just accept it. The entertainment industry isn’t entertaining when every year costs more and gives us less control. And it's all hidden behind TOS. Prices go up. Subscription get more complicated. Physical media keeps getting pushed aside. Digital licenses come with more restrictions. And when consumers speak up, it feels like the answer is already decided before we even open our mouths. That is where the third party comes in. Us. Gamers are not asking for anything unreasonable. We want choices. We want to decide whether we buy physical or digital. We want something in hand that matters to us. We want to collect games, lend them, display them and pass them down. This has never really been about hating digital games. It has always been about refusing to have the choice made for us. And when the big companies stop listening, gamers will find another way. Can you blame us? I already made that decision for myself. I said goodbye to PlayStation and moved to Steam. Yes, Steam is digital. I know that. But the difference is that I have far more choice. A massive library, competing hardware, frequent sales, cheaper games, different storefronts and the freedom to build or upgrade the machine I want instead of waiting for a corporation to tell me what the next box is going to cost. Or if my games will even play on it. That matters. The console wars used to be about which company had the better exclusives or the better hardware. I think the real fight now is simpler. Corpos want more control, gamers want more choice. But, something has to give. If companies keep pushing prices higher, taking options away and ignoring the people who actually fund this industry, then gamers are going to keep looking for alternatives. PC. Steam. Linux. Older hardware. Physical collecting. Whatever gives us back some control. Greed can make a company a lot of money in the short term.
