On May 4 at approximately 9:35 a.m. the WPD was dispatched to Ferndale Rd. and Lake Street on a welfare check. The subject was detained, became uncooperative, fled the scene, and was taken into custody without incident shortly after. There is no concern to public safety.

On August 31, 1982, Sergeant J.W. Anderson made the ultimate sacrifice on his 36th birthday and was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance.
On that crucial day, Sgt. Anderson's valiant actions helped save numerous lives. We will always remember his bravery.

Last month was Zero Tolerance Month! When compared to May 2023 activity numbers, in June, the WPD recorded a 101% increase in citations, a 21% increase in verbal warnings and a 66% increase in written warnings.
