I've been informed that this little guy is a species of hoverfly larve from Bear Syrph (Eriozona syrphoides). Thanks to SWSEIC for the help in ID.

@Buzz_dont_tweet looking for some help with ID. I've tried moth, ladybird, beetle larvae and sawfly but I'm stumped. It was about 2cm long, slow moving, stocky, 3m up a spruce tree in glasgow which was also covered in black spruce bark aphids. #bugID #help #preditor #spruce
