Fun fact! I’m running for Morton District 201 School Board with 2 others. We spent the last month fighting to stay on the ballot. Now we need your help! Please donate… https://t.co/DUY1X5qHnI 🧵
@CPD1617Scanner @PetersTweetr When you have to “choose” food & roof or an SE school where you know your child will have the most success. You end up having to choose food & roof. So there isn’t a choice for them really as long as there aren’t safe, timely & reliable transportation options.
@CPD1617Scanner @PetersTweetr because there is a category of kids who cannot choose to even try for SE because the traffic / transit / safe streets situation means some parents can’t get their student to that SE school at all because of their work schedule & inability to drive them.
@CPD1617Scanner @PetersTweetr This policy allows kids, parents (especially moms), child free professionals and grandparents all get autonomy back. If you’re only seeing 20 something’s on bike you’re not looking. & if you think those are the only people who need this then you’re not asking the right Qs either.
@CPD1617Scanner @PetersTweetr I’ve lost count of the number of over 30 professionals I’ve talked to that have said they want to bike but can’t because it’s unsafe. Kids want to go outside & play with friends but can’t because of traffic & people like you will complain they are iPad kids.
@NWChiFiets Granted many commenters are probably using that as a reason to nimby. I just hate to blind eye that & single parent households and the struggles both face.
@NWChiFiets But also, let’s remember that handicap accessible units are just as important & even more scarce. mobility challenged only have a 1/3 chance of finding housing in these units, if the first floor is accessible.
@bikeshopgirlcom On this, would @ternbicycles want to spearhead a petition for these stores to standardize their bike parking? @Costco was happy to include biking shoppers in a recent promo mag but then back seats us to ashtrays & blocked wave racks that cargo bikes can’t reach or lock up to
@bikeshopgirlcom It reduced unnecessary spending but also increased shopping to local shops for gifts & delight shopping IF they had good bike parking.
I’ve all but stopped biking to Home Depot & Costco because in the last year they both prioritized shopping cart storage over safe bike parking
I’d like to think @RepHernandez wouldn’t be ok with this but her staff doesn’t seem to feel it’s an important enough issue to put me on her calendar to make her aware of it. I’m also contacting @reprashidil because I am sure he’ll respond & this affects his constituents too.
As a voting constituent of @RepHernandez I’m extremely disappointed that after 4 or 5 months of calling to get a meeting with my representative I’ve never had a call back to schedule anything inspite of being promised every time that I would.
Does @RepHernandez know that parents in her district keep their daughters & menstruating students home from school on days when they have their period because of Morton high schools abusive uniform and bathroom policies?
