Today, an overwhelming majority of eligible on and off-air staff at @kcur are taking the first step in ensuring that we are able to secure a more active role in the shared future of this organization.
Read our open letter below:
We are overjoyed with this victory, which allows us to make certain that KCUR and its partners remain a trusted, quality source of news and information for years to come!
We look forward to beginning good faith negotiations with the University of Missouri to secure more stable working conditions, competitive pay and benefits, and enduring job protections.
BREAKING: We are officially a union!
Workers at @kcur – including sister station Classical KC and collaborations with Harvest Public Media, NPR's Midwest Newsroom, and the Kansas News Service – have overwhelmingly voted to unionize with @CWAUnion.
former @kcur contractor here saying fuck yeah!! kcur is what it is because of the people and community, and those voices should have a major share of the conversation about the station's future.
Glad that you guys are doing this. Forming a union has been good for our shop at The Star. Pay raises, much better mileage reimbursement, having a say in how your performance is measured and other rights.
We stand in solidarity with our friends at @WeMakeKCUR!
@KCUR workers keep the Kansas City community informed, engaged and inspired. Now more than ever, we call on @UMKC and @UMSystem to support journalism and recognize these essential jobs. #UnionYES
