Today, we celebrate the Transfiguration of Jesus, when He revealed His divine glory on a mountain. With apostles Peter, James, and John praying, Jesus’ face shone like the sun, His clothes dazzling white. Moses and Elijah appeared, discussing His coming death in Jerusalem. A cloud enveloped them, and God’s voice declared, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to Him!” This event affirms Christ’s divinity and mission.

Honoured on August 6 as the Feast of the Transfiguration, it’s also the fourth Luminous Mystery of the Rosary, calling us to reflect on His divine nature and obey His teachings.

MESSAGE OF THE HOLY FATHER POPE LEO XIV - YOUTH FESTIVAL - Medjugorje, August 1 – 6, 2026

On the occasion of the Medjugorje Youth Festival, Pope Leo XIV extends his cordial greeting to all participants and urges them to return, AD FONTEM, that is, to Christ, the source of a new life and the authentic joy. He therefore invites them to rediscover, through prayer, listening to the Word of God, and the sacraments, the beauty of a personal encounter with the Lord, who quenches every heart and gives the strength to always begin anew.

His Holiness encourages young people to sincerely seek the truth that sets them free, without being seduced by the illusions of fleeting happiness. In following Jesus, each person can embrace even the most difficult questions and the restlessness of the heart as an opportunity for discernment and growth in faith.

The Holy Father also urges young people to let themselves be led by the Holy Spirit and to entrust themselves to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, so that they may become shining witnesses of the Gospel, promoters of fraternity, and builders of peace in society.

Assuring them of his remembrance in prayer, the Supreme Pontiff invokes upon all an abundance of divine grace, heartily imparting his apostolic blessing.

Date for your diary: Next Saturday, 11 July, in Sutton we will be hosting our last Community Rosary before the end of summer, dedicated to Our Lady of Medjugorje.
Banners are up at Sutton Cross and in front of St. Fintan’s Church. We have also printed more than 100 messages from Our Lady, delivered through the visionaries in Medjugorje, as personal invitations to the Rosary. These will be available in a small basket next to the Statue of Our Lady tomorrow (Sunday).

We had a great presentation about Aid to the Church in Need by Brandon Scott and Michael Kelly today. Parishioners were very receptive, and Brandon had a number of people engaging with him on the way out of church. He was also kind enough to help promote our event about persecuted Christians in Nigeria this upcoming Thursday (July 2nd) with Fr. John Paul. @ireland_acn @MichaelPTKelly

Today the Church in Ireland honours the Blessed Irish Martyrs. On 20 June we remember seventeen men and women — bishops, priests, friars and lay people — beatified by Pope St John Paul II in 1992, chosen to represent nearly 300 Catholics who gave their lives for the faith in Ireland between 1579 and 1654. The date marks the martyrdom of Archbishop Dermot O'Hurley of Cashel in 1584. From well-known figures like O'Hurley and Margaret Ball to the Wexford sailors whose names are almost all that survives, they witnessed to Christ unto death. On the Solemnity of Pentecost, which brings the Easter season to its close, Pope Leo XIV celebrated Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica, reflecting on the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of peace, mission, and truth. The Pope said the Paraclete continues to “enlighten minds and instill new vitality in our hearts,” transforming history and opening it to salvation. He reminded the faithful that the whole Church is called to bear witness to the Gospel with joy and hope. Concluding his homily, Pope Leo prayed that the Holy Spirit may save humanity from war, misery, and sin through the omnipotence of love.

Pentecost Sunday

Tomorrow we celebrate the solemn feast of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles.

“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” — Acts 2:1–4 (NIV)

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in us the fire of your love.

May the same Spirit that birthed the Church renew our parishes and strengthen us in faith.

Happy Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord! 🙏✨

Today we celebrate the glorious moment when Jesus Christ, forty days after His Resurrection, ascended into Heaven in the sight of His apostles. He who came down from Heaven has returned to the right hand of the Father, not to leave us, but to prepare a place for us and to send the Holy Spirit.

As the angels told the disciples: “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw Him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11)
May the Ascended Lord lift our hearts and minds to Heaven, strengthen our hope, and fill us with courage to live as His witnesses on earth.

He is risen, and He reigns! 🕊️
