I totally condemn the unprovoked attack on pensioners peacefully protesting at the Lagos State House of Assembly earlier today.

It is bad enough that these senior citizens are being denied their legitimate post-retirement entitlements after giving years of their lives in service. To then unleash tear gas on them for peacefully demanding what is rightfully theirs is cruel, reckless, and completely unacceptable.

Teargassing elderly citizens in these circumstances is equivalent to pushing them into a gas chamber. Many of these pensioners may already be vulnerable to the dangerous effects of chemical fumes, and such an assault is grave; it could even have fatal consequences.

The officers responsible for this brutal attack must be identified, arrested, investigated, and prosecuted. Where the evidence supports it, they should face charges such as attempted murder, reflecting the seriousness of deliberately exposing vulnerable senior citizens to potentially lethal harm.

Our pensioners deserve their entitlements, dignity, and respect, not brutality!
