It’s ≈#MeteorologicalMalpractice to post 1 run of a model & point out the worst case scenario for clicks & likes. Don’t do it. Context & expertise matters. Don’t create #WeatherAnxiety to stroke your ego & pad your stats. @samhsagov@distressline https://t.co/I8qKmxQXrh #Henri
@raywolf3rd “Othering” is an effective tactic to divide people whose interests otherwise align. Is the concern about trans girls winning trophies or is it about keeping women safe from predators? Is trans athlete participation a significant problem or a lazy fear technique?
@sydneyw_wx Examine the surface obs east and west of the boundary. Cool to the east. Warm to the west. Precipitation to the east also. Looks like a dry line struggling to propagate east out of the river valley. Check out the WPC surface analysis from yesterday. It was an interesting setup.
@MissAshes92 Need to unpack the original post. Who is “they”. What “alarm” is the person referring to. Even if WFOs had a PIO, they wouldn’t be able to respond to every comment.
@therobdale@EverythingWX Not a “bug”. 5-min temps are reported in integer degrees Celsius. METAR and SPECI for ASOS and some AWOS sites have tenth degree precision in the remarks.
Woe to those who manipulate religion and the very name of God for their own military, economic, and political gain, dragging that which is sacred into darkness and filth. #ApostolicJourney#Cameroon https://t.co/bKteFZ3iWE
@MatthewCappucci@BadWeatherKyle@Simcoe12_Wx Back in my radio days I would stick with “thunderstorm” and then the hazards when time was a factor. If I had more time I would use “rotating thunderstorm also known as ‘supercell’…” or similar phrase. It’s technically correct, which everyone knows is the best kind of correct.
@MissAshes92 There’s an amount of truth there. A forecast isn’t a contract with deliverables. The atmosphere doesn’t read the forecast and would laugh at us if it did. When and how the forecast will be wrong is an important consideration.
What the Artemis II astronauts did over the last 10 days was a testament to their bravery. And the fact that they traveled farther from Earth than anyone ever has, re-entered our atmosphere at more than 24,000 mph, and splashed down safely was a testament to human ingenuity. Thanks to everyone at @NASA for making this mission possible, and for taking us along for the ride.
@MatthewCappucci@NbergWX So many questions. What data was the model trained with? How did it perform against 2024 season? 2023? Beating the rest for one season is nice. Was it a fluke? Cherry-picked data? Skepticism is an important part of science and it rests upon to author to back up their claims.
@Wx_Jones I thought the greyscale image was IR initially. Now I think it’s a monocolor visible image. There appears to be shadows in the plume on the left of the image.
We have a new state of IL record for max hail size! Preliminary measurements find a maximum dimension of 6.14 inches. Thank you so much to the Denault family of Kankakee for inviting me into their home, sharing their experience, and letting me take the stone for measurement.
We have preliminarily confirmed 2 tornadoes from the evening of March 10th. An EF-3 tornado tracked 36.6 miles from W of Aroma Park, IL to near DeMotte, IN. The other tornado we confirmed is an EF-1 tornado that tracked 10.3 miles from SW of Wheatfield to near Dunns Bridge, IN.
Warning forecasters have vastly more data available than your radar app. Want to consult on warnings? Go to school, apply for a job, be selected, go through the training program, practice with a teammate, qualify as a warning forecaster, share your opinion. #HowToStartAMetFight
Ultra-Weathergami for Fairbanks, AK on March 2, 2026!
With a high of -9°F and a low of -46°F, this site had a daily temperature combination not previously recorded at any of the 375 climate sites used.
There are now 8,869 unique combinations across all sites!
@GMengel If you have limited means, start small. Think about the format and plan around that. You can add more as your budget and community grow. If you want to do live weather analysis, you can (potentially) use free sites for weather data. Add radar software as you’re able. Good luck!
@MatthewCappucci That video doesn’t look right. Seems to be sped up drone imagery or straight AI. Ground movement at the beginning of the clip is very strange.
