In 2011, the year after I lost my sister to breast cancer, I was also diagnosed. I was a poor college student and relied on Medical for care. I was diagnosed on Monday and had surgery that Friday. That speed of care saved my life. We need Medicare for All now. #WorldCancerDay

My older sister was diagnosed with breast cancer at 26 & fought her insurance company repeatedly deny her care. In 2010, she passed away five days after the ACA was signed, legislation that, had it been in place when she was diagnosed, would have saved her life. #WorldCancerDay

My life didn't allow me to close my eyes & choose to be blind. In 2010, I lost my sister, Victoria, to breast cancer & my parents lost their home to foreclosure. In 2011, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. These challenges have led me to run for democratic office to help others.

Ban child marriage in the US now. It is legal in 46 states. Approx. 248,000 were married between 2000-2010. Most girls to adult men. If married before 19 they are 50% more likely to drop out of high school & 31% more likely to live in poverty.
