On this last day of Hispanic Heritage month, I would like to acknowledge my own heritage. My father moved from Mexico in his early 20s for his residency. My extended family still lives in Mexico, including my beautiful Abuelita who is in her 90s.
My students completed projects where they chose a country to represent their family. They presented information about their country and identified it on a map.
My students worked all year earning confetti in the "Ready Confetti" jar. Yesterday, they got to celebrate by throwing it and taking some home. We enjoyed our confetti party!
Our ESL classroom got a "class pet." My third graders are completing a unit about amazing plants, so we thought this would be a great addition. We fed our Venus Fly Trap (named piranha-saurus rex) worms today. @TPaineIES
My students wrote themselves letters of encouragement for their upcoming ACCESS test. They will get them back to read to themselves before testing begins. Good luck!!!
@QianJulieWang@MelissaAGleason@ChpsTweets Thank you for sharing your story! As teacher of elementary ELL's (and the daughter of a Mexican immigrant), your story has been really meaningful. You are welcome to our virtual book club anytime!
@MelissaAGleason@QianJulieWang@ChpsTweets It is a hard one to put down! It is teaching me so much about the struggles that many child immigrants go through, especially in 90s
