Our registras are still saying no readings during our ceremony?! Even though we are getting married outside and there are no guidelines against it! And we are allowed speeches. Makes no sense! #whataboutweddings@WAWofficialUK@BorisJohnson
My blog post looks behind the headline of outdoor weddings being legalised and suggests that this is a welcome but modest change that only highlights the need for much wider reform of our antiquated marriage laws: https://t.co/Cz1OcPEodT

1st Reading of Marriage and Civil Partnership (Minimum Age) Bill took place @HouseofCommons yesterday. 2nd Reading due Friday 19 November. Bill to increase minimum age for marriage and civil partnership but might 2nd Reading provide opportunity for discussion of wider reform?
As my new book argues, there is a desperate need for reform of marriage law to allow weddings conducted by independent celebrants and belief organisations to be legally recognised so that couples don’t have to have two ceremonies and pay up twice: https://t.co/p9BoFRMiHB
You can now watch my lecture on ‘The Three Problems with Marriage Law’ as delivered at the @ecclawsoc conference on their YouTube channel:

Good news for #weddings in Wales! A welcome step for couples wanting a wedding ceremony at a venue of their choice. Encouraging to see the adoption of SDC as a way forward, aligning with the #WeddingsTaskforce proposal for safely reopening the sector @scullyp@10DowningStreet
