Today, as you plan for next week, be sure to think of others, especially the ones you are thankful for. Keep them and you safe this year.
Today’s song: Peaceful Easy Feeling - The Eagles
Good morning -
Some food for thought: if thanksgiving turkey really is so good, why don’t we eat it more often? Don’t get me wrong, the stuffing is the real show stopper. And if your favorite part are the beans, go sit at the kids table.
We’d normally be discussing when and where we’d like to meet up for drinks next Wednesday. But this year, little trickier getting together with Covid. Hell, I can’t even sit down at a Chick-fil-A in the middle of a 5 hour road trip.
Today, make sure you are having conversations, not selling. Be thoughtful in your talking and mindful in your listening. If you actually want someone to be well, help make them well.
Today’s song: Ship to Wreck - FaTM
Good morning -
I hope this message finds you well during these truly unprecedented times! Did that sound fake? Because it was. 7 months into this thing and you’d think sales would have figured out a new way to start emails by now. But, what if they mean it?
Every day we are faced with being able to give or take. We can build into someone or we can break them down. There is nothing wrong with being sincere as long as it’s truthful and doesn’t have an underlying motive.
Today, before you pick a side, put yourself in the person’s shoes. Why does he need a gun? Why did she need an abortion? Where do my taxes go? It’s going to be a bumpy ride to November, let’s try to smooth it out.
Today’s song: Are You In - Incubus
Good morning -
Election years always have a certain vibe to them. In 2016, the USA didn’t know what would happen. Never before was there a non political person selected as representative. People lost their mind when he won. And now again, this year, uncertainty.
I typically refer to myself as purple, meaning I see both sides well. I’m not 100% for or against anything. I feel like a judge and I like the facts and the long term cause & effects. Seems like this year, everyone is picking sides: a nation divided.
Today, as you push something off to tomorrow, put your foot in your mouth, or just goof something up, trust that you can fix it by focusing on not focusing on it. It’ll be OK.
Today’s song: You Do You - Jason Mraz
Good morning -
Some times we can’t get out of our own mind. You know, when you’re up at 3am thinking about that dumb thing you did, or that big meeting the next day. Your mind needs the sleep. Don’t fight it.
But it’s difficult! Our minds are always working, literally. But that same mind that’s keeping you up can calm you down, too. For me, it’s praying and remembering what I’m thankful for that gets me to sleep. Don’t pray? Trying talking to yourself.
Today, I am impressed by my 5yo ability to cut through the distractions of the world and be positive when so many are being negative. We could all learn a little from her.
Today’s song: I Loved Her First - Heartland
Good morning -
I include a song every week for a few different reasons. Sometimes it fits the theme. Other times it was playing when I wrote WW so I went with it. But sometimes, I write because of a song. Music can be very motivating.
My oldest child started school this week. Not only is that a significant moment in time, but I never thought she’d go wearing a mask. I wasn’t sure how she’d do, but “it was the best day ever.”
Today, what are you doing? Putting your head in the sand or building a castle with it? Success takes time and you won’t get there in reverse.
Today’s song: The Less I Know the Better - Tame Impala
Good morning -
You know how you get through things? You get through them. Can’t go around it, can’t go over it, can’t go under it, have to go through it. You should go forward not backwards.
Now I know sometimes you have to take a step back to go forward, but even then, there is a plan! Retreat without cause is defeat. Regrouping is different.
Today, find your milestones and let’s get after them. Don’t worry if no one sees you though, there will always be more. Oh, and if you think there aren’t? Pick a new path.
Today’s song: Riders On the Storm - The Doors
Good morning -
Milestones use to be used to well, mark the miles. Pretty straightforward name. What that term has become is more of an accomplishment in the modern age. After all, your watch or GPS tracks miles for you.
I hit a milestone recently and my first thought was “who saw that!?” I was looking for recognition. But it didn’t come. No one really noticed. So I’ve set my sight on a new, bigger, further away milestone.
