Proud of my team members. Only one meet this year have I had what would probably considered all it the top 5 varsity runners. When kids are missing someone steps up. The girls are all first year XC kids so they are learning in the ins and outs of courses week.
Have some parents of seniors that are going above what I've been used to as a coach in XC. All are making signs for their kids for our parents night next week. We've always just kind of did our thing without much fan fair.
Boys at JCC Invite ran well. No medalist but a deep field of pretty fast runners. Shayden PRd with a 1 minute improvement from last week, Max Pr'd breaking into the 23's for the first time. Order of finishers Jake, Zeke, Shayden, Max, Ryan, Talon.
Productive day on perfect running weather. On the Hilly JCC course Harper (Grade 8) was 7th in her very first race. The 2 high school girls I had today both set Personal records, Clara was 29:00 and Kallie was 3rd with a 21:28. Both are seniors and first year runners.
What do you do when you walk outside and feel you're breathing water. To get a better workout move inside 6 groups, 3 min goes on bikes, ellipticals, tread mills, rowing machine/burpees/mountain climbers, rest and jog around indoor track, X2.
I had a crazy ending to today's run. Met a guy who ran with me for my last three miles. Six years ago he was in prison, weighed 360 and was an addict. Decided to change his life. His first run was a lap around the prison yard. He kept at it. Went to rehab immediately after prison and used running to stay sober. He now weighs 180 pounds, is married, has a good job and is running his first marathon next month.
Teenagers. Middle-aged parents. Addicts. It doesn't matter who you are. Distance running can change your life.
Not a bad turn out for the team run. 3 aren't pictured that were there, a few others out of town. Didn't feel like a July run with 70s and lower humidity.
