Michael Rosen points to a very important issue to consider in the potential consequence that focusing on Genocide can obscure the reality that Israel is also engaged in multiple atrocity crimes, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.

The question of genocide is important, but so too are the myriad of other crimes being committed by Israel - including the crime of extermination, the crime of starvation, the crime of denying humanitarian aid, and the crime of ethnic cleansing.

Berlin's official city portal just wrote our film No Other Land has "antisemitic tendencies". A film that won the Berlinale and was recently invited to a special screening in the German embassy in Israel. It pains me to see how, after murdering most of my family in the holocaust, you empty the word antisemitism of meaning to silence critics of Israel's occupation in the West Bank (the topic of our film) and legitimize violence against Palestinians. I feel unsafe and unwelcome in Berlin of 2024 as a left-wing Israeli and will take legal action.

When I used to work at the Indonesian hospital, I would pass a tent that seemed out of place. One day, I asked about it and learned a story that broke my heart: the tent stood where a family home once was, destroyed in a bombing that killed everyone inside except one son. With no way to retrieve his family’s bodies from the rubble, he built the tent over the remains, over his family.

Every time I passed by, I was reminded of the resilience of the human spirit, our will to adapt and survive even in unimaginable circumstances. It gave me hope that we could rebuild, that we could endure, but only if this war ends. Just days ago, that tent and the entire area in Jabalia camp were burned and destroyed.

End the war.

As previously noted, the fatal flaw in the anti-Semitism/pogrom framework is that there is no evidence of attacks on Dutch Jews on the night in question, nor is any provided in the report. In fact, as the report recounts, the Amsterdam Jewish community held its commemoration of Kristallnacht in the city's Portuguese Synagogue - a well-known landmark - on the same night as the football match. Yet the purportedly anti-Semitic hordes made no effort to attack or disrupt this event, or any other Jewish target that was not believed to be associated with Maccabi Tel Aviv's contingent of genocidal thugs.
