Kenny Dillingham on the power of being present and the motto that drove Arizona State in 2024-25.
"We didn't talk about anything other than right now. All the time."
"You should wanna work as hard as you've ever worked in your entire life. You should be addicted to competing in whatever you're doing right now."
"Be the very best version of yourself today."
Then he revealed the staff motto before every game:
"If we can just get this one."
"If we can just get this one. Let's just get this one."
It starts with where you focus.
One game. One moment. One opportunity.
"It's only about right now. It's not about next week."
That's the power of presence.
Win the moment in front of you. Then stack the days.
The big picture takes care of itself when you're locked in on right now.

For anyone who’s ever faced a personal challenge, it doesn’t get much better than the 'Six Minutes' speech in VISION QUEST. This scene wasn’t in the 1979 novel by Terry Davis. Elmo's monologue was written specifically for the film by screenwriter Darryl Ponicsan (THE LAST DETAIL, TAPS). Actor J. C. Quinn absolutely knocks it out of the park here.
If you’d like to support the @FMJDiary project, you can bid on an original poster below. I signed and inscribed it with Elmo’s iconic line: “It ain't the six minutes... it's what happens in that six minutes.”

Successful people are persistent and consistent.
Derek Jeter said, "Failure is essential. If I can promise you one thing for certain, you will fail. I wouldn't have had the success without the failures."
Failure isn't the opposite of success - it's part of the path to it.
Successful people don't avoid adversity. They expect it. They know that they must learn from the setbacks and challenges.
You can't avoid failure - you have to be relentless in your pursuits and refuse to let it stop you.
John Harbaugh nailed it: "Leadership is serving other people."
"It's helping other people accomplish what they want to accomplish. It's make a difference in their lives."
Great leaders believe they serve the team.
They know that leadership is a responsibility to serve.
Jimmy Johnson sharing a mindset lesson from General Patton.
"Football rewards the guys that are in great condition. That's when you have fun. When you're kicking somebody's ass and they're sucking for wind."
Then he quoted the great general:
"Fatigue makes cowards of us all."
"When you're tired - you make mistakes, you don't do what's right, and your will to win all of a sudden starts to waver."
"You get tired and all of a sudden you don't have that same fight."
It makes you vulnerable.
It removes your discipline and your drive to succeed.
"Fatigue makes cowards of us all. All of us. Me included."
"If you're in great shape, if you can run like a deer at the end of the ball game, you're gonna be smiling and having fun."
It means take time to prepare your mind and body.
Conditioning and preparation are things you can control.
Because when fatigue sets in, the fight goes with it if you let it.

Dusty May said, "A lot of failure comes with simply being afraid of the results. We were never afraid of the results."
Let go of the outcomes and focus on what you can control.
• Trust in yourself.
• Trust in your preparation.
• Trust in show up and doing the work
Everyone wants the credit.
Few want the mirror.
“We need to look at ourselves when we have failure and point to other people when we have success.”
- Marcus Freeman
That’s real leadership.👇
Curt Cignetti shares a universal truth about habits and consequences.
"In life - you got freedom of choice, but not freedom of consequence."
"First you form your habits, then your habits form you."
Every choice and action you take compounds. The small decisions you make daily - preparation, work ethic, and how you respond - those become your habits.
And over time, those habits become your identity.
You're free to choose. But the consequences of those choices aren't optional.
Your habits are shaping who you become.

@grok@Adino1298824@cape_wrestles I would be more interested to see a Greco match between prime Aleksandr Karelin and Mijaín López. Who do you have winning this match?
