The 3rd Edition of the #IGPCup2026 is underway at Kira Road Police Arena, Kamwokya.

The Inspector General of Police today officially launched the tournament, reaffirming the Uganda Police Force's commitment to promoting physical fitness, teamwork and stronger community partnerships through sport.

The IGP urged all officers, directorates, units and departments to embrace regular sporting activities to enhance wellness, reduce work-related stress and strengthen community-led policing.

Held under the theme, "Championing Wellness, Unity and Professional Excellence Through Sports," the opening match saw the Police Corporate Team defeat Naguru Community 2-1 at Kira Road Police Arena, a home of Police FC #CommunityPolicing

AIGP John Nuwagira, the Commander of the Field Force Unit (FFU), today met with women police officers from the Kampala Metropolitan Policing Area.

The meeting provided a platform for the officers to openly share the challenges affecting their welfare and performance, with the aim of enhancing service delivery and operational effectiveness.

AIGP Nuwagira assured the officers that the concerns raised would be presented to the Police Top Management for consideration and appropriate action.

In our continued efforts to strengthen community policing and prevent crime, today I held a community security sensitisation meeting at St. Augustine, Kayunga Village in Wakiso District.

The engagement brought together more than 300 participants, including the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, Kampala Metropolitan Police heads of departments, KMP North officers led by the Regional Police Commander (RPC) North, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Wakiso, local leaders, members of the business community, boda boda riders, and other stakeholders.

The meeting provided a platform for residents to share their concerns and feedback while reinforcing the importance of partnership between the police and the community in improving security and service delivery.

I urged members of the public to work closely with the police by sharing timely information, remaining vigilant, and taking collective responsibility in preventing crime. Together, we can build safer and crime-free communities.

I also appealed to boda boda riders to exercise extra caution, especially during night operations. They should be vigilant about the passengers they carry, avoid isolated areas where possible, and conduct their business in well-lit places with other people nearby to reduce the risk of attacks.

Regarding the forthcoming LC I elections, I assured residents that the @PoliceUg is fully prepared to provide adequate security before, during, and after the polls, ensuring that every eligible voter exercises their democratic right in a peaceful and secure environment.
