As mentioned by @kellykferg, this study was a huge team effort. I recognize the unique opportunity this project provided, particularly for an early career person. I’ve been able to do a project with a full roster of scientists I have long admired.

I was struck by the patience, care, and passion displayed by each of 16 study PIs and their teams who generously provided expertise, time, and data. For me, it has been about 3 years of effort, but for many team members it is one piece of decades of work. 2/

3) There are still important questions remaining. e.g., identifying the segments of our population at highest risk of phthalate exposure and preterm birth, determining the most susceptible window of pregnancy for exposure, and elucidating the biological mechanisms of harm. 4/

2) Even if interventions can only produce small to modest population-level reductions in phthalate exposure during pregnancy, there could still be important benefits for pregnant people and their children (and we only assessed prematurity). So let's intervene! 3/
