— you feel so tired.”
Barnaby frowns and presses into Wally’s hand, giving it a nuzzle.
“Maybe you should try to sleep?
Unless. . .
Is there a reason you can’t sleep?”
Barnaby’s jaw drops, when he hears that it’s been years!
He can’t even imagine not sleeping for most of the day, let alone years!
“Huh?!
Wally, are you yanking my chain?
You haven’t slept, for years?”
He wonders how that is even possible!
“Sleep is important. . .
No wonder —
“Huh?”
Barnaby looks in the direction that Wally is looking.
“Who are you talking about, pal?
I don’t see anyone around, except for us.”
He blinks and smiles.
“Are you trying to prank me?”
“You said it yourself, friends worry about the health of their friends, right?
So, of course, I’d be worried about you.”
He scoops Wally into his arms and cradles him, holding him against his large fluffy body.
“Is there a reason you haven’t been able to sleep?
Is. . . —
— everything okay?
Are you feeling alright?”
Barnaby’s tail tucked between his legs a bit.
Usually a hug makes his friend smile more.
Did he do something wrong?
“Should. . . I let go?”
After a moment, Barnaby tilts his head.
Something felt different.
His friend didn’t ragdoll like usual, he kinda of. . . Tried to get closer? Lean in?
He wasn’t sure.
His friend’s smile had faltered.
It was such a small thing, but Barnaby noticed, right away.
“Wally, is —
Barnaby has never thought Wally’s smile to be uncanny.
He couldn’t speak for the rest of their neighbors, but Barnaby loves his friend’s smile!
“And when you’re happy, I’m happy.”
A happy Home, a happy Wally, and a happy Barnaby.”
“Home, sweet Home!”
Barnaby can’t help but chuckle and feel happy, when the other starts musing about Home.
“I’m sure Home would love to know that we’re thinking about them!”
Wally always understands how he feels.
That’s why he always confides in him.
Barnaby keeps no secrets, from his best pal.
“Yeah, you’re absolutely right.
You always know the right things to say, Wally.”
Barnaby nods and wraps his large arms around Wally and hugs him —
— remembers that day.
It was scary, for everyone.
Barnaby made sure to reassure Wally and make sure that he was okay, after.
It’s scary, to hurt one of your friends, by accident.
It’s one of Barnaby’s biggest fears, considering how large he is.
“I guess you’re right.
I mean, I worry a bunch, but I don’t want the neighbors to know.”
Barnaby only tells these kinds of things to Wally.
He knows he doesn’t tell the others about what he says to Wally, in private.
“I just want everyone to be happy and smile.”
He —
“I know, but you know I don’t like to worry you.”
Barnaby watches, as his friend pulls out the multicolored bandage and puts it on his injury.
“Thanks—”
When he feels the get-better kiss, he can’t help but give Wally a big ol’ smile!
“Thanks, pal.
I feel better, already!”
“Aw, shucks.
I’m sorry if I worried you, Wally.”
Barnaby grunts, as he tries to sit up.
“I’m okay, I think.
Probably nothing major.”
He has a rip on his knee!
That’s not good!
“Huh?
Uh-oh, looks like I spoke too soon.
Nothing a bandage can’t fix, right?”
“Yes. . .”
Aw, poor guy sounds sad.
Looks like it was quite the tumble, for the big guy.
“It’s true what they say. . .
The bigger they are, the harder they fall.”
He sighs, and turns his head to look at Wally.
“So, what brings you to this neck of the woods?”
