Gauteng Lawyer Who ‘Bought’ 13-year-old girl for R160k Wants Case Thrown Out

In Johannesburg’s Gauteng High Court today, Gauteng Lawyer Carel Schoeman asked for his case to be thrown out after the State closed its argument.

Accused of buying a 13-year-old girl from her mother for R160,000 (with a R24,000 deposit) and raping her repeatedly, Schoeman pleaded not guilty to 26 counts including rape and human trafficking. He claims he thought she was 19, as listed on a Sex Trader escort profile.

The mother faces 72 counts for allegedly forcing her daughters (then 11 and 13) into sex with up to 10 clients daily at guesthouses for cash. She reportedly posted: “I did the crime, now I have to do my time.”

The Section 174 discharge application was postponed to Wednesday, 3 June 2026.
