The Beauties by @WellReadCookie is a sumptuous historical fiction novel set in the Restoration Period in 1665. I was swept away by the fascinating story of Emilia and the lush historical backdrop, & intrigued by the questions raised about art and beauty.

"Lauren Chater sets her scenes and paints her characters .. with the discerning eye and skill of an artist inspired by the painter of the Windsor Beauties."

During reconstruction of Lenberg Castle, Austria in 2008, archaeologists discovered over 2700 textile items, dating to the 15th century. The most surprising items were these linen & lace garments. We dont know who owned these or how they were worn, but if that is a “bra,” it is the oldest ever found
