For those who have been asking about missing person Autumn Cleveland:
On Monday, September 2, 2024, at approximately 3:27 PM, a 911 call was received reporting a deceased female was inside a vehicle parked near the Goodwins Mills Road in Dayton.
The female matched the description of a missing person out of Newport News in Virginia, 23-year-old Autumn Cleveland.
The State Police Major Crimes Unit South responded and started an investigation into the incident. There is no danger to the public. The death remains under investigation, pending an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.
Earlier this morning, ACO Johnston and Sgt. Baez assisted the Wells Harbor Master and his team with monitoring a deceased humpback whale that is floating approximately 2 miles off the coast of Wells. The location of the whale is being closely watched as it approaches land.
An “Extreme G5 Geomagnetic Storm” that hasn’t happened in over 20 years was definitely not on our 2024 Bingo card.

Race Weekend is upon us! We are happy to announce that we will be hosting the Maine Coast Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K for the 3rd year in a row. We are anticipating upwards of 4,000 runners this weekend.

Earlier this afternoon Officer Ethan Matt had to issue the Wells Safe Water Buoy a citation for parking in a no parking zone...
[3/3] As you can see from the video below, our sUAS is able to detect heat signatures at night that assists us with search operations and overall scene safety.
[1/3] On the night of April 13th, members of the Wells Police Department and our sUAS Unit assisted with the successful apprehension of two subjects that fled on foot from North Berwick Police Officers.
[2/3] Our sUAS was able to cover a large footprint utilizing it’s thermal imaging camera, while working in conjunction with a K-9 Unit and officers searching the area. It was a multi-agency team effort with a safe and successful ending.
This past storm not only caused significant power outages, the high surf caused the jetty buoy marker to break lose. The Wells Harbor Master has notified the U.S. Coast Guard and boaters should use caution when entering Wells Harbor.
