@glenys1971@julie3140 Anyone thinking disabled people, PIP claimants and refugees are the "problem" - need to give their heads a wobble.
Look at these eye watering profits, YOU help to build.
@David__Osland And many disabled people who could work under the right conditions will not be hired bc why would they hire a disabled person when they could just hire someone else that doesn't have flare-up days and need accommodations 🥲
@David__Osland There are three primary exploiters of the welfare system!
Private landlords who the bulk of UC goes to.
Employers who don’t pay a living wage.
And the government who use recipients as a scapegoat for their own ends whilst protecting the other two exploiters!
@Vicophobia01 My NHS assessor wrote down “no special interests” because my interests were Anne Frank, Eva Peron and musical theatre, not trains or street signs. Wouldn’t even changed when I tried to appeal!
@Vicophobia01 I am diagnosed with ADHD. I have sensory issues, monotropism and have had serial and recurring special interests during my lifetime and do believe I'm also very likely autistic. however I was diagnosed not autistic at my assessment🤦♀️
Have a female client with ADHD who thinks she’s also autistic (high probability as they are more than 50% likely to co-occur).
She showed me the NHS initial assessment form, it asks “Do you have a special interest in trains, cars, birds?”
Why are we still stuck on a very specific profile of an autistic person, usually a specific type of male?
Special interests can manifest so differently depending on your identity and cultural context. You can have a special interest in ANYTHING.
Complete bollocks! The person claiming for 16 years most likely has a condition that will never improve, rendering reassessment totally pointless. The same goes for many others, including myself. There is no point reassessing a claimant with quadriplegic cerebral palsy for example.
UK ; We can't afford to have all these people with ADHD not working and claiming benefits;
ADHD community; okay, so are you going to provide us with better access to NHS care, improved access to medication and ramp up support services?
UK; no, we also think you shouldn't be supported by the NHS because it's too expensive.
ADHD community ; okay, so what if we spend our own money to go private, and obtain support that way?
UK; we won't recognise the private diagnosis and you'll have to sit on a year's long waiting list.
ADHD community; well, what about supporting us in employment, so we are able to support ourselves, by providing reasonable adjustments and supportive working environments?
UK; Businesses don't want to employ you because we let the media call you all lazy and workshy, so that's going to be difficult
ADHD community; Well, what do you expect us to do?!
UK; Not our problem
A volunteer at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital who recently marked 80 years’ service in healthcare has been featured on @BBCBreakfast as a thank you for her unwavering commitment to her community 🎥
Audrey Joughin, 96, began volunteering at the Royal in 1995 following her retirement from NHS. She has since undertaken almost every role the volunteer service offers. A huge achievement for Audrey and well-deserved recognition 💙
@s1nkyourteeth For sure, girls/women are still being underdiagnosed w ASD. Same w people who are African American. I assess; the assessment tools are known to still be behind in their discriminatory power for both groups. We’re supposed to do deeper interview for both but most people do not.
@s1nkyourteeth yes!!! because medical science in every aspect do not care about women, do not research enough about women and think we should just crack on, and then get gaslit if we push for help
hey does anyone else also thinks its eerily coincidental that the moment women with autism and adhd start to get recognised and diagnosed we suddenly see a wave of people pushing this ‘over-diagnosis’ rhetoric
Nope. You have to actually have it in order to be diagnosed. They aren’t just giving it out, symptoms must be disabling to meet criteria. It’s funny though that now women are finally getting support and diagnosed it’s an ‘over-diagnosis’ problem. Harmful statement and not helpful

Televising a public execution is beyond disgusting and barbaric. The death penalty should not exist, let alone be a live-streamed spectacle.
This is a grotesque violation of human dignity. We must oppose this - and the death penalty - everywhere.

@ItsEmilyKaty I saw a good response in relation to this: when the telescope was invented it didn’t mean there were more stars in the sky, it just meant we could see them.
I’m late dx but it’s not like I just caught it like a cold.
@ItsEmilyKaty Finding out/diagnosed ADHD solved the puzzle of my life. It completely explained everything. And the best bit, it meant I could forgive myself. And there's no better feeling on Earth than that.
