Ironic post: this is my fifteenth anniversary on Twitter (or whatever this is now) and will be my last day. I will miss hearing from so many of you here. I am on Facebook regularly and just joined Bluesky. Please follow at @wendyfall.bsky.social. Deleting this app now. Bye!!
For what it’s worth, a huge percentage of the members of SAG are not millionaires. They are working actors whose names aren’t on the posters. The only people the media are interested in are the stars, so this will be a poorly covered strike. Please be kind.
@tressiemcphd Heat-related illness is a real thing. It has a cumulative effect, so when you don’t cool off sufficiently it can get worse. It is exacerbated by many underlying conditions and eased by acclimatization. People do die of severe HRI.
@heymrsbond I don’t post much either, but I’m Wendy Fall, phd in English but I work in state government. Making small steps toward environmental justice, and practicing anti-racism while trying to change a giant institution from within. 🙄
@raulpacheco We don’t encourage students’ curiosity or creativity enough. It’s hard to fake inquiry. It requires actual engagement, which they too often can skate by without.
@sarahesilverman @KleinUla Solidarity on this. I have a syllabus that’s the official LMS document. It’s almost all boilerplate from admin. I give students a semester guide (my real policies and how to get an A) and a weekly ‘class update’ email that is meant for hype/encouragement.
@jacasiegel Osprey Flapjill bag. Light, super comfortable, and so durable I have hauled it all over for years (planes, trains, boats, all weather) & it looks brand new. Protects electronics well, has a pocket for everything, fully adjustable shoulder strap, so it can be worn cross-body.
@KatyaRahel @TeachMrReed There are. I just like to use as many ways as possible. Nothing scares me more as a teacher than that feeling that I’m losing ‘em when I explain an assignment. Probably my own hang-ups, I know.
@FromPhDtoLife Let’s not forget public service! Yes, there is money in industry, but academic folks can do a lot of good by working in local, state, and federal government roles. Leadership, innovation, project management, communication, research, and more — your talent is needed in government.
@Mark_Baden I’m from Michigan and I run into this all of the time when I tell people how much I love Detroit. There’s more than geography behind these attitudes, and people should think hard about why they condemn our beautiful cities so much.
