[TRANS] 260414 IU and Lee Yeon Share How Their Friendship Has Extended Off Screen… “I send her a good morning text as soon as I wake up”
In an interview conducted after the photoshoot with May cover-stars IU and Lee Yeon, the two discussed their reasons for choosing #PerfectCrown, on-set anecdotes, and how their friendship extended into their personal lives.
IU shared that they had recently spent a lot of time together due to their schedules, adding, “Today’s shoot was really fun.” Lee Yeon commented, “It’s special that we’re able to work on a project together and also leave behind images of us through a pictorial like this.”
IU also elaborated on why she chose the drama. While reviewing several projects, she said that upon reading “Perfect Crown”, she immediately thought, “I have to do this no matter what.” She added that she had been ready both physically and mentally for a project that included cheerful and comedic elements and had a relatively compact format, making it a perfect fit for her current situation.
The process of how the two grew closer on set was also shared in detail. IU recalled an early filming moment involving a scene where only the two of them appeared together in a car. “At that time, it was just the two of us in the car, and Yeon-ie ssi kept talking to me to make me feel comfortable,” she said. She remembered how Lee Yeon asked about everything from her daily life on days off to small personal preferences, naturally creating an environment where they could get to know each other and become close.
Lee Yeon emphasized the sense of support and gratitude she felt toward IU on set. “When Ji-eun sunbae is on set, I feel a great deal of reassurance,” she said, noting that IU helped create an environment where fellow actors could perform comfortably, making filming much smoother. She also mentioned that there were days when, due to the shooting schedule, they didn’t share scenes together. “On those days, I find myself thinking, ‘I wish Ji-eun sunbae were here. It would be more fun!’”
Their relationship has extended beyond the drama into their everyday lives. IU and Lee Yeon have grown close like best friends, even traveling together to Jeju Island and frequently spending time together outside of filming. They also spoke about how they have influenced each other. IU said, “Because of Yeon-ie ssi, my daily life has changed quite a bit. For one, I walk much more often now,” explaining that she used to rarely spend time walking outdoors with friends in the sunlight. She added that going out to meet Lee Yeon and walking together has positively changed her life.
Lee Yeon shared that even her daily routine has changed. “We’ve become close enough that I send her a good morning message as soon as I wake up,” she said. She added that whenever she feels overwhelmed on busy sets, IU helps center her emotionally. Whether on a drama set or during photoshoots, IU has been a great source of support in moments that require intense focus and composure.
The two also expressed their hopes of reuniting in another project in the future. While they currently portray characters who confide in each other, they shared an interest in exploring completely different dynamics next time. IU suggested that, since they played a relationship built on emotional openness this time, it would be interesting in the future to portray characters who clash due to differences in values or perspectives, even if neither is a villain. Lee Yeon added that she would like to try working with IU in a genre-driven project. Whether they are on the same side or opposing sides, she expressed hope that they could meet again in such a setting.
