@josiahhughes I agree and that’s what makes it so special. Emphermal experiences can be beautiful. This is why many love going to the theatre. Bring back the phrase “you just had to be there”. It creates hype
@DeRushaJ The amount of squad cars and undercover police vehicles swarming through Whittier the last hour is crazy. Multiple SWAT and bearcat trucks too.
@wkndupdater This is a good question. I have been obsessed with theatre and Tony awards since kid and only ever seen one show on Broadway. Not sure why I’m so invested. I don’t even see that many bootlegs. But I read a lot of criticism and see a ton of local theatre
Schmigadoon winning score is so offensive to those who actually write original music for the theater. One, the music was created for television first. Two, the music is DIRECTLY LIFTED FROM OLD MUSICALS. There is next to nothing original about it. So disappointed. #TonyAwards
See my tiktok on Chief O’Hara sleeping with male and female subordinates. I posted it a few weeks back.
There may be a baby with a subordinate, and harassment suits in the pipe from male officers. Aside from that, the community likes him and are going to be disappointed.
@MoMoPerry@StarTribune What are you referring to by their “work”if not their shows? I assumed that would be evidence of the “shift”. Maybe I’m misunderstanding but when you say “explicitly identity-centered and politically charged work” that sounds like you are mean the specific shows they program?
@MoMoPerry@StarTribune I don’t think people are alienated or polarized from activist-y sounding curatorial framing as long as the show is good. But that’s true of anything? So I am just really confused on what specific production or marketing from The Jungle Theater you find to be that devisive?
@MoMoPerry@StarTribune I loved The Ally as well! The staging and direction was really inventive and worked well. The Jungle was also so alive and engaging sorry you missed it. To me, seems evident that blaming social justice missions is a scapegoat for bad/boring writing, directing, or acting.
@MoMoPerry@StarTribune Went to comments for specifics as you suggest and the examples lose me from your side. They aren’t the ones I was thinking of. In many ways I agree identity politics have knee capped arts organizations. Hand to God, The Wolves, and Cambodian Rock Band are not examples tho!?
@MoMoPerry@StarTribune Mixed Blood Theatre. Extremely known for social justice initiatives and curating a session that centers “issues” They choose a script that fit their curatorial framing but didn’t compromise on quality of work! In my opinion. Curious if you liked their most recent show?
